John Deere

I remember growing up my dad commuted on a black John Deer bicycle. All I remember about the bike was that it had a tan vinyl seat. Did someone else actually make these? 1975ish. I would love to see some pics of this one, and hear a few stories. I wouldn't think it was a very high end bike?

Google for "John Deere" and bicycles and you will find some history. In the 1890's bike boom, John Deere bought bikes from American factories to sell under the "John Deere" name. During the 1970's bike boom, bikes were imported from Taiwan and sold under that name. And, today, kid's bikes are sold with that name at "Toys R Us".

Low end gas pipe. Not worth messin with unless you are a J.D. collector. I worked at a Deere dealership in the 70's and 80's and had to work on them on occasion. Not very good bikes.

There are 2 for sale here in Atlanta. Seems like they are quite overpriced, given the comments above.

Those two look pretty sweet in a low-end kinda way. I especially like the stance of the mixte.

Take the zero off the end and it would be about right for the pair.
