1990 Basso frame - Help me identify it, please

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I have a 1990 Basso road frame (serial number 902265): Columbus Tretubi with Basso dropouts and fork ends. I have asked aorund and found out very little. One friend said it was a Gap. A guy at Yellow Jersey said it was a Gap Miami (I assume that "Miami" is either the paint scheme or sub-model in the Gap series).

If anyone knows what this frame is, please let me know. I'd appreciate your help. It's too big for me and will be sold. I just want to know what exactly I'm selling. There don't seem to be too many Bassos out there.

Looks like a Gap to me. "Miami" was the name of the paint scheme... I have an '87 Gap "Americana" (red, white, blue fade):

Do you have a listing of Basso paint schemes, by any chance?

No, I don't. I pick up bits and pieces here and there. I'm by no means an expert on Basso's, but I'm gathering as much info as I can.

Interesting. In the course of seeking information on these machines, have you noted any other specific color scheme names other then Miami and Americana?

My Basso is a 90 I think, and it's scheme is Jamaica. It's yellow with a green fork. I'm actually getting it repainted now as it was a bit rusty when I picked it up at a local used bike shop.

frpax - Can you tell me what components you have? They look great. I'm trying to decide which components to get for my build. Thanks

Full Campy Athena with the exception of the hubs & pedals. Miche Competition hubs & Dura Ace SPD-R pedals.
Mavic MA40 rims.
Cinelli car & stem.
Tires are Vittoria Diamante, but I did not like them, so now I have Continental Attack/Force. I plan on putting on Torelli Torino Classico tires as soon as my LBS gets them. Honey sidewalls will look awesome.

I'd like to see pics of your "Jamaica"!

Hi FRPAX,

Nice bike...really nice. My inclination is that mine is a Gap as well, thought looking closely at the 1990 catalogue I see 1. the forks are different (lugged crown and not chromed) and 2. there appear to be two toptube cable guides (or are those internal ports) whereas mine has three "old school" guides. Very puzzling system Basso had (has).

This Basso I picked up also had a full Athena group that I assume was stock on this line of bike.

Thnaks again,

Jon
