My "new" 1979 Raleigh Team Record

SO a bit of back story, for the past year I've been commuting to on a 1978 Motobecane Mirage that I pulled out of a shed at my camp that my dad had thrown together from found parts 20 years ago. The bike has treated me great and even made it through being hit. But alas the BB is starting to go, the frame is bent, and the rear deraileur it just a total POS.

So it is now getting retired to a rain fixed gear because on Monday I picked up this bad boy!

1979 Raleigh Team Record:
Worksop built Reynolds 531 Frame, Stays, and Fork
Campy forged read dropouts
Suntour Cyclone DT shifters, F and R deraileurs
Weimann 605 brakes and levers
Maillard Helico Matic hubs with Matrix Strada rims(not original)
Avocet saddle(not original, it should be a Brooks)

Needless to say I am so excited to have this bike, it is leaps and bounds above the Mirage, so light, so fast, so quite! The only downside is that the top tube has a small dent in it, but nothing to really worry about.

And onto the pictures!

According to this sticker the bike originally came from Allston, Mass and now it's here with me in Syracuse, NY

The chain needed to be cleaned and lubed, the front deraileur adjusted and I was on the road. I still need to repack the bearings in the hubs, and I'll probably replace the pedals and toe clips, pedals are pretty rusty but work fine and the toe clips and too small for my feet.

Oh and it cost me the high price of $125

Nice looking ride! Man with all these Raleigh topics lately I kinda want to hunt one down! Although, I can't talk I guess since I own a Peugeot which there are tons of threads for.

Looks like a nice riding bike. Vintage Sun Tour Cyclone These pix are from my '78 Bridgestone Diamond Touring (I bought it new in '79) ... it came with Sun Tour Cyclone derailleurs and Gran Compe brakes.... I had almost forgotten how cool the '70s were!

Oh believe me, that's the plan. I've been trying so hard not to ride it a lot before I repack the bearings, wont have time until tomorrow to do that. Hopefully it's just the front that needs it, since I just read that thread about the helico matic rear hub and all the horror stories with it...

It's been pretty convenient with all the Raleigh threads lately, didn't have to do much searching to find out the history of my bike I do enjoy how I've gone from a crazy French bike to an awesome English bike.
