Identify this early Cannondale
I just picked up this old cannondale with the plan of restoring and reselling it. The original plan was to leave it as a flat bar bike, but if it is unique or of value to collectors I'll put drops on it. Can anyone tell me what model and year this bike is?
It has Suntour AX 5000 rear derailleur, AX 3000 front derailleur and shifters, sakae crank. Thanks in advance http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...6902/002-1.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...ck6902/003.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...ck6902/004.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...ck6902/005.jpg |
The vintage Cannondale site is pretty good and should have this bike. The handlebars surely are not original. This is not a collectable bike, but if you have access to drop bars and proper brake levers, it would improve sales price.
Something looks wrong on those top tube cable guides. But maybe thats the way it came?? |

It's pre-'90 as per the headbadge....the railroad station was replaced in 1990. The guides are correct but it's the Tange fork with those rack bosses that help pinpoint the model/year. After looking at some of the old catalog scans, it looks like you have a 1987 ST400.

Do you think I would have any problems converting this to 9 speed? the dropouts measure 125mm, and a 9 speed wheel fit in fine, only spreading it a very slight amount by hand to fit it in (1mm). Suspect any other issues like cassette space issues with the chainstays?
