So, besides ePay, Craigslisp, and Garage sales
Where else should I be looking for a nice 70's- early 80's Road bike?
I asked a buddy about it, and he just said ePay, plus patience.
BTW, I just found this bike on ePay:
LOL!!!

Some bike shops keep a list of customers who are trying to sell a bike. No harm in asking.
Have you posted a "want" ad on Craigslist? They work!

I've found a bunch of garbage bikes.
I always fix them, then give them away. I've kept the Razor scooters for my kids and their friends, though.

Depending on your area, pawn shops can be great. You probably won't find a $10 bargain but you can sometimes find a gem for $100 right next to the xmart bike for the same price.

The thing about all the above sources is that you never know when one of them will turn up something, so you need to "hang in there" and search a bit. You may also find a bike that isn't the right fit for you...even though many of us often buy those anyway & hope they will grow or shrink to our size ... but you can usually sell or give those to somebody else... or you can find a serviceable one cheap that can work as a "hold over" until you come across the one you want. It can be fun...kind of a hobby. Welcome to C&V!

Yeah, I'm still on the fence about that Pinarello.
especially after the comments on the previous threads.
Thanks again!

Welcome to the Forum. As well as Craigslist and Ebay etc., don't forget "word of mouth". I was chatting to a co-worker in my new job abour plans for the weekend. I mentioned I was going to spray paint my Claud Butler frame, which is really old (1935). On the Monday he asked if I'd be interested in a 1953 Claud Butler - his father in law had bought it new but now felt too old to ride and wanted it to go to a good home. Went round to his house and spent two hours chatting about cycling memories, bikes we had both owned, people we'd ridden with and the bike was lovely - totally original and still in good working order. Rode it down the road and back and came back with a smile on my face. I made him an offer that was good for both of us and drove away with another treasured classic with an interesting history.
Since then I've been given three more bikes by people at work or in companies we trade with (including another Claud Butler) and am currently awaiting the outcome of four more "possibles" - all free of charge!

I am just "the guy that likes old bikes". People bring me bikes - nothing special yet other than my totally original Schwinn Suburban, it has been not much more than hi ten stuff, but I have made some pretty good return on that after fixing it up.

Poke your nose in Coral Way Bicycle Shop if you're looking for the occasional old bits. If you nag him to find lugged steel, he might come up with something as well.
John Dacey at Business Cycles is the place for high-zoot modern stuff, and the occasional vintage. Also one of the few Miami shops to keep a nice store of MKS parts and Velox cotton bar tape.
There are some interesting NOS late '80s/early '90s Shimano components (cranksets, etc) at Tamiami Cyclery, along with the smattering of interesting used equipment about the entire shop.
Take care,
-Kurt

John Dacey built the De Salvo for me.
John Dacey built the De Salvo for me. What a great guy (and mechanic / bike fit expert!) I'll check out the other places. Thanks! Remember the bike store in the Grove? Old school, with tons of Bob Jacksons and Harry Quinns? Parts behind the counter? Colnagos (including MTBs)?
I liked that place.
Is the Jamaican guy out on Bird Road still in business? I've gotta check that out...

I've yet to see anyone at a flea market who had a quality bike and didn't know it. They all seem to be department store specials for $25 or lower-mid level stuff at the right price (cannondales for 300).
