Anyone else here have a Romic?
Here is mine:
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_0295.jpg I think it is a '75. Full Dura Ace except the Crane derailuer; SR Royal stem and seat post, SR bars, sew-ups. Full 531 DB, chromed. Comfy bike. |
Swanky. Can we get some close ups of the lugs?
|
Nice !

holy wheel clearances Batman! Even the Batmobile could fit through the clearances on that frame.
|
I never owned one, but there's plenty of entries in the CR list archives (shocking not any page in the CR home site, under "USA").
Romics were built in Houston TX by the late Ray Gasiorowski, his son(s) may still be building frames. Here's just a taste: http://search.bikelist.org/?SearchString=romic |

Sweet and yeah, seconding the fenders. Get chrome or a dull silver set.

mine was in a sorry state when I got it, needing the top tube replaced. So I had the cantilever bosses added and a Rack with some extra eyelets made for it (along with a full repaint). All the original parts except for the seatpost (which oddly seemed too small) and the front derailleur were "upgraded" with a mix of mid level modern stuff or I may have been more tempted to "bring it back" though I still think sometimes that I should have.

http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/7342/sideip8.jpg vjp PS: In a BQ article on fender fitting Jan Heine says that you have to indent the front fender under the crown to get the perfect fender line. I am completely anal so personally I would do it. |
My brother has a Romic he's been riding for about 30 years. I'll see if I can scare up some pictures.
|
it was already indented... these are actually some quick shots I took after first getting it on the road so I hadnt yet adjusted the fenders.
Interestingly enough I didnt get the fork re-racked, and it still rides great.. even with a case of beer, or a basket overflowing (literally) with grocery's. |
I purchased this Romic Touring in Aug, 1976....frame serial #101147976 .... built April 7 1976....#1011 built. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7429570be.jpeg |
NINE years a zombie! But a thread worth reviving, now with a nice pic. :thumb:
That is one long, slack touring bike you got there, halfmile. I could ride that thing a hundred miles tomorrow. More Romics, please! |
Woww. I loved the romnic. It is the best classic vintage model.

My only bike, and it is such a great ride....and nice today as when I bought it in the summer of 1976. I bought it from Daniel Boone bike shop in Houston Texas. They are still in business in the same store and they gave me the Number to contact Joy....She was the person who was the owner at the time...I had very specific set of requirements as I was planning a bike tour across the US....instead, I got a job offer for the job of a life time in my home town, Little Rock, so I never made the trip. Now, my plans are to ride the Rails to Trails and see as much of the country as possible. I live within an 40 minute drive of the KATY Trail and also the Flint Hills Trails.....both trails are relative flat but the topography is so different......The Flint Hills trail follows the old Oregon Wagon train trail that so many thousands of pioneers followed and is rolling hills that you can see for ever.....a great fall ride.... |

A few other Romic threads found on Search. I like a good thread revival revival. Acquired an '80 Romic, that was another person's custom. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2b2765989.jpeg A very good fit for me - as acquired. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ab838bf01.jpeg |
Ray Gasiorowski (1928 - 1996) - Worked at Schwinn Chicago, then AMF. Founded Romic in Houston in the 1970's
Anyone know more about him? |

Absolutely gorgeous but I really, really hope you're going to look for the matching Galli Criterium (or Competizione?) gold rear mech! That build deserves it!
It was on local CL twice. Before Xmas i replied late, got no answer. This year, I replied 2nd, but with a little persuasion won the deal, and with HUGE assist from since6 who delivered the bike to my house today (while the power was out after storm). This one is a case where the seller's measurements were close-but-no-cigar, but IN MY FAVOR, geometrically speaking. 60(ctc)X59, with 18 headtube. Had been listed as 62X60. Based on a couple of around the block trips, this 'custom' with 531 butted main tubes, has heavier stays (both chain and seat) for a larger rider, and the fork is nice&light but is unlabeled, tho clearly original. Half step and granny Stronglight crank, narrow bars (38), and the Galli bits. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f687d13ae.jpeg Never pedaled a half steppin with your granny https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0d0e1b190.jpeg |
