Rare 1988 Nishiki?
I bought the following Nishiki bike at a LBS in September of 1990 near Montreal. I remember paying about 600 CAD for it at that time. Markings indicate the following:
Nishiki (Sport Series) Model: Silhouette designed by Norco FD: Shimano Sport LX RD: Shimano Sport LX Hubs and Shift Levers: Shimano Exage Sport All other components: Shimano Exage Action with "Biopace" Chainrings Seat: Vetta Rims: Araya 700C Serial Number: CH03503 (from my reseach I believe this means that it was made for the Canadian market in 1988) (Photo files too large to attach) Question: I can find no reference to the Nishiki "Silhouette" or where it fell in the hierarchy at the time. Can anybody help with more info on this bike? Cheers, Fasteddy. |
The best way to post pics is to first post them onto a free service like Photobucket or Flickr and then post a link.

Okay thx. Here is a photo. Tires, Handle Tape and Pedals (stolen in 1991) all replaced.

That would be a Canadian Nishiki, when the company was a subsidiary/division of Norco. They owned the Fiori brand at that time as well.
Shimano Sport LX stuff was a step down from 105, IIRC. So, the Silhouette was a high-end recreational bike - not quite considered race quality. It's not really rare, in that there were hundreds of dealers in Canada selling those bikes at that time, and it isn't a particularly high-end model, but it's a decent bike that's worth taking care of. |
