preferably in silver/chrome.
simple supportive design, attaches to mounting braze ons without a lot of adjustable attachment options.
custom build only?

this:

is the closest thing they have to what I want, it would need some modifications to attach to my seat stay braze ons, plus they don't currently stock them.
Here is how I currently use my bike's braze ons:

So I ordered a nitto r14:

I will probably run it as is, or, maybe have it "fixed" to fit my bike by my lfb (local frame builder).

what would you have "fixed"? it appears to be adjustable. I believe most nitto racks are, you just slide the supports up and down.

My problem with adjustable/adaptable items (not just racks) is that they are then prone to loosening, failure, going out of adjustment, etc. So once I fit the nitto rack specifically to my bike, I may see if it can be permanently welded in position. Or I may not, depending on how it turns out.

I was wondering when someone would bring that gag up.

Where's Art Fern and the Matinee Lady when you need them?

nitto r14 is in and on the bike. Here it is in a supporting role (sorry for bad pic):

here it is more by itself:

final outcome:

I wanted a rivendell nigel smythe rear rack bag, but they are $$$. I found a jandd "econo" rack bag that works well, just big enough to carry what I need to commute. If I need a bigger bag I still have the barley.

That looks very nice! I've never ridden with a bag on the rack (as opposed to panniers). Does it affect handling?

handling is fine but the whole setup is pretty light. The rack is very light - only rated to ~13lbs. but I carry less than that - 1 liter of water, t-shirt, cell phone, wallet, flat kit, frame pump.

By the way, you can make a great rack bag from old lunch box, soft type.
