did you get the stem out? i had a stuck stem on a nashbar, had to cut the stem off to get the forks out, turns out the fork steer was cracked.. hopefully your situation was different..

Wow, nice bikes. Lucky finds. Bith my size too (jealous). The head tube angle on the 1st makes the seat tube look a little more slack then one would expect. The second not as much since, as you mentioned, the head tube is more slack. Do you have a measure on the ST angle out of curiosity? For reference I am just shy of 6'4" and i like a 110 or 120 stem on my 61/62 cm frames. I have long arms... so.. not necessarily was the original spec long stems too long. Also flexibility is different for everyone. When I am in good shape both strengh wise and pain wise I can really stretch out and sometimes I want longer stems by the end of the road season than I did at the start...

Both have 75 degree heads, but the 59 has a 73 seat tube, while the larger is at 72.
The smaller bike seems to have .25" greater wheelbase too!
Of course, all measurements include operator error.

Had to get physical with the stem.

I always wonder why they slacken the ST on the big frames... it annoys me as I have to slam the seat so far forward. I build a frame a couple years ago with a 74 so my saddle positiong would look normal.

Nice work on the stem!

Almost finished except for the chain. Looks like either rain, or I'm overscheduled for the rest of the week, so who needs a chain?
Simple lug outlines, but an amazing amount of cutout work:
6 G's, 14 holes, 12 Grandis cutouts, and 7 slots. Just the same as my other one.

Lots of vintage action from Grandis on Facebook -

I don't know if that's a $2K restoration, but what do I know?

And an Attenzione ai falsi! to this UK Ebay listing.

Rode them both for a couple of weeks each and they both feel great. Even with the difference in size, they do feel quite similar, except that the big one's rear rides SUPER stiff. I'm guessing that the larger frame uses SP stays, and either that's the difference or maybe the 27" wheels and cheap tires.

Chuckk, I think I missed the part of where it went from blue/sliver to red. Did you paint it yourself or send it out somewhere?

Cost this bottom feeder next to nothing because it was beset with surface rust, including a couple of blooms under the top tube.
They looked awful, but was just a slight surface reaction under the paint.....
While I was at it, I removed unfortunate updates under the blue - pump peg, cable guides and second bottle braze-ons. I'm guessing that all silver was original.

Rustoleum red spray and model paint insignia yellow for the cutouts.
