Rickert built up!

Put my ebay find, 1960's Rickert, together over the weekend. Took it out for the maiden voyage on monday. Wow, what a ride. Smooth, responsive, and it "floats". Thats a term I use to describe a ride where you barely feel the road under you. The bike absorbs the shock, yet is responsive and tight feeling. The handling and cornering are wonderful. Its really a beauty.

Components - Weinmann centerpulls, Campy NR cranks and derailleurs, Cinelli bar and stem, Brooks B-17

Right now it has a beater set of wheels but am looking for something nice to put on her.

Paint and chrome is a bit weathered but the ride is fantastic.

Wanted to mention, that is a large chrome panel on the seat tube. Interesting treatment that I've never seen before.

I feel like "der Weltmeister" on this bike.

Very nice!!! I love the colors and the paint scheme. Nothing wrong with a little patina, either.

For those bars and brakes I recommend picking up a set of the Dia Compe hoods (the Dia Compe levers are copies of the Weinmann under license), or Cane Creek hoods (Cane Creek = Dia Compe) if you don't want Dia Compe logos on there. Then some cloth tape and some shellac on that and you'll be sitting in gorgeous style!

FYI: I fitted those Dia Compe hoods around barrel adjusters like you have and you just have to trim the hood back at the top a bit with a sharp knife.

Thanks, Those were the best brake levers I had on hand. I'd like to find some Weinmanns with the red QR buttons. But the Dia Comps will suffice for now. Deffinately need some hoods, really not comfortable without them. And some White tape is in order also.

Just don't forget to act like "der Weltmeister" when on it. ;)

Rode to the Northbrook velodrome on my Rickert this evening and watched some racing. Man this bike rides soooo nice.

Also stopped at Performance bike after work and got some white bar tape. Performance has a really cool Deutschland jersey that I think I just gotta have. German bike, Deutschland jersey, Its all coming together.

Made some changes to my Rickert. Got a set of tubular wheels from ebay, $40 delivered to my door. Normandy hubs, Nisi rims. Also from ebay a vintage GB handlebar, Rando style bend. Still searching for some Weinmann levers with the red QR buttons. Salvaged some nice Lyotard "rat trap" pedals from a trash day bike find.

With the tubulars this bike has a phenomenal ride. Hardly feel the road under me. And it really jumps when I get out of the saddle.
