I tried three attachment methods -- velcro straps, plastic zip ties, and mini bungee cords -- all of which worked. You need one zip tie, etc for each belt loop. Then wrap around bars tightly so you get some twist in the belt loops to snug the fit.

Awesome. I ran across some old surplus alice packs recently that are begging me to try and make a set paniers out of them. I think they would look good with some nice M-14 magazine pouches, now thatr I think of it.

So far I'm resisiting, but the forfe is strong with this idea. Fact that my Super Galaxy is green is not helping...........

That's as sweet as ribbon cane... Mauser lovers are going to wonder why the price of ammo pouches is suddenly going up.

I have some of those ammo pouches. They came with my mauser.
I can't imagine what I'd put in them though on the bike. They might fit a small power bar of a patch kit.

They're obviously ideal if you take your bike hunting, just keep your ammo there.

Might be good for holding a few 8mm rounds just in case

(Not sure I'd want carry the Mauser around though.)

No fishin' pole - just the gun racks. Do I get partial credit?

Brings new meaning to the term, "riding shotgun"! Come to think of it, "on your left" also takes on a different slant.

Old gas-mask bags, readily available at War Surplus shops everywhere, also make good bike-bags, or sling a few across your shoulders. A fine fashion statement - as you cover your house in plastic-wrap...

I think WWII grenades with the tops lopped off would make cool bar mounts for water bottles.

I'm really liking the spirit on this thread.

Regarding carrying capacity, here are some tested and simulated options:

1) small camera and small cell phone in one, spare bandana and newtons/hard candy in the other.

2) one pack Camel regulars and Zippo in one, 15 rounds 8mm Mauser in the other.

BTW, I have these ammo pouches because when my son, an avocational military historian, was 15, he and I rebuilt two Czech Mausers and then took them out to the desert to blowup grapefruit. Great fun.

I wonder what an 8mm Mauser round would do to a carbon-framed bike...That would make a good utube video.

A company in England had carried these replicas of a classic design bicycle "Tool" bag. They would strap into a traditional bike frame below the saddle. They were made of heavy simulated leather, double thickness for rigidity along the edge, and with nice nickle plated brass buckles.

From the measurements given, I thought they would be perfect for carrying a Glock...

... or a Walther PPK for the more vintage minded cyclist.

Unfortunately, they have now been discontinued

Nice PPK. I have the same piece with rosewood handgrips

I don't think so, but those pouches are post-war from somewhere in the eastern bloc. I've seen them provided by the importers of Yugo, Polish, and Czech Mausers, Finnish and Soviet Nagants, and all manner of SKS .
Do look pretty cool, though.....
