Help id this Raleigh?
 

Sorry for the bad pictures. It's a CL ad, with absolutely nothing in it. Called the guy and no answer. The bike reminded me of some of the 80s Raleigh touring bikes, but I don't think it is. I couldn't find it on retro Raleigh. Any ideas? i figured maybe the black paint bar on the top tube might be specific to one model.

Yea, that's what made me reconsider. I don't think I've seen a record that looked like this, though.

I think it's a Huffeigh. Check Sheldon's 1985 catalog.

Are you thinking the Pursuit? It seems it's topbar paint thingy is further front and gold. The crank does look right, though. Is that just a rebranded huffy?

No, not really a rebranded Huffy. From 83-86 (I think), Raleigh pulled back from the U.S. during some hard times for them. Huffy approached them about licensing the brand and did so. They supplied mostly bikes from Taiwan and Japan (I have one of the low-end ones from Taiwan and it is a pretty good bike). Huffy didn't produce bikes for sale as Raleighs; rather they managed the brand for Raleigh for a few years in an attempt to get a higher end LBS presence going. Raleigh declined to update the agreement and let it lapse, and started selling bikes in the U.S. after that period. The highest end Huffeighs were true Raleighs, imported from England.

It looks like that could be a Pursuit, which is just below my Marathon. The Marathon has been a good bike for me. The Pursuit is a tad heavier, doesn't have a QR rear wheel. Other than that, looks about the same as the Marathon. I would guess that, like the Marathon, the Pursuit was made in Taiwan.
