I ref some local races and have seen guys on older bikes w/DT shifters. One I really wanted was a '77 Cinelli that a junior (age<19) rode, but he wasn't selling. (It had been his uncle's back in the day)

Someone is attempting to start a criterium series, "Men of Steel" to race you need a steel framed bike.
Not lugged, just Steel.
I think one race has been done already.
While I don't think steel is a real limit on performance,
It has a good marketing ring to it for promotion.

I raced my modernized 84 trek 760 last year.
Served me fine.
I've considered lining up to training races with it, but don't have a power meter on it and would like to have the data.
