I figured I'd share my heartbreak:

Recently I posted an ad on my Craigslist looking for GIOS pantographed parts for a bike. I got this e-mail today, which broke my heart just a little bit:

Wish you would have written me two weeks ago. I sold my whole gios c record grouppo
all I have left is the gios stem attached to black drop bars and origional black leather bar tape.
I'll sell that set up for $100. It is super sexy

Oi, the trauma!

-Nick

Wait a minute, suddenly you have enough money for a pantographed C-Record group? And you are begging parts on this board almost all the time?

Something's not adding up for me.

You all are so nice!

OFG, I'm actually totally broke. But hunting for parts is fun... And who knows, maybe I could've gotten a deal on the C-Record stuff! Besides, the guy said he sold the group for $400. Which sounded like a bad deal for him... Don't hate me...

Tigerprawn... Thank you for the help!

Muccapazza... These parts are for a real Gios. Heck yes! ... ... What trek?

RFC... I agree wholeheartedly! It's just a bike.

Here's the trick:

Dont ever look for anything. Then you'll be pleasantly surprised by what you find, and never disapointed by what you don't.

In other words, just look for bikes in general, and not specific ones. Bikes-- even good ones-- can be found, but that specific model you're lusting after may not.

A non-pantographed C-Record seatpost goes for $150 alone on ebay. I recently missed out on a 'package deal' ebay listing for a long cage Daytona RD (which is what I really wanted). The seller also had an 'aero campy seatpost' which was a C-Record I believe. My max bid + shipping was $75. Someone else obviously saw it too, though the RD itself was probably worth close to that.

So $400 for a complete pantographed C-Record group? Is he sure it was C-Record?

Yes, sir. Craigslist has lots of overpriced sellers and lots of really good deals, too. I've picked up a full Shimano 600 Tri Color group for $60. It was a sweet deal.

I've had good, unexpected luck with CL.
