I'm looking for a couple of racks...a front and a rear... and I found this on ebay with no description other than "Bike Rack"

Is this a front rack? a seatpost attached rear rack?

It sort of seems like it would be a front rack that attaches to the stem or headtube...does that sound right?

Never heard of a spring rack on the front, though I suppose it isn't impossible. Aerodynamically I'd think it'd be more bad than good.

I have had spring racks that clamped to the seat post before, but it seems to me that those had leg stays that went to the rear hub.

Either way, it looks like the only attachment is the clamp to either head or seat tube. Without some sort of additional support, it would seem to me like it wouldn't be very stable with any sort of cargo on it.

Looks like a conventional rear rack modified to a cantilever, seatpost attached rack.

Judging from the angle of the attachment, I'd say it would have to be a front rack. It would be pretty weird and droopy if it were in the back.

that's exactly what led me to think it is a front rack.

I still don't get it.

That front clamp looks really narrow...could be the photo angle though.

Maybe it mounts directly on to the headtube?

I submitted a best offer for 10 bux... its worth it just to see what this thing is.

that clamp looks too small to fit caliper brake bolts...so I doubt its something like those mafac front racks...certainly too narrow to fit Canti brake posts..

ozneddy 07-09-09 03:33 PM

Would it maybe attach to the seatpost ?

Zaphod Beeblebrox 07-09-09 03:39 PM

....maybe the seatstays?

Try handlebar stem.

I'm guessing front rack.

Mike Mills 07-09-09 07:06 PM

There's no doubt about it, it's a front rack that attaches to the handlebar stem.

Once you own it, you can put it anywhere you want.
