900 sounds like a conversation starter for buying the bike, I would love that in my collection...

Just found this thread - these are great finds! I'll post up a couple from the central Ohio area - if anyone needs me to put eyeballs on anything within a reasonable distance, just let me know.

Appears to have a crank to me. Somebody loved that bike to put leather wraps on and keep it in that good of shape. $30 sounds fishy.

Perhaps the seller couldn't get the engine to crank over.

+1 I bet the bearings in the bb are dried up and frozen.... Hence "no crank"

The bike's I've seen him sell are all very good values. Often very pretty bikes that are modified to perfection.

Remember, go to a bike shop and see what that amount gets you........

Not much.

His bikes have character and are likely excellent performers for the bucks.

That's not leather wrap. All those motos came with simulated stitched on leather wrap made of rubber, that had built in brake hoods. Someone probably cut off the hoods, and added the gum hoods.,,,,BD

So you are saying the true value of this Cinelli is between $240 and $390? That was my question.

This showed up on CL yesterday. It's pretty, and damn near mint. Wish I had the cash to spend right now, but I am waiting on a Motobecane a work friend is going to sell me. I hear it is kind of a beater, which is fine cause I'll make it a CX. But....this one is pretttty

That's one of my recent builds, but I'm not going to either pimp it on the forum or defend the selling price. The bike's very unusual and the quality of the build speaks for itself.

Just as a data point, if you could find one of those Cinelli frames to buy, the asking price range would be about double the numbers mentioned above.

I lose money on almost every bike I build, but that's why it's a hobby and not a business.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You got it--a turnkey solution for someone looking for a nice vintag bike to RIDE. I'm watching all Doc Cannondale's projects and will gladly pay "extra" to get one of them. Check out the thread on '80's Schwinn's to see some of his work. He's also got a web page with dozens of finished bikes. Maybe he'll post it?

No, I was speaking more generally.

I live in a hot bike market. The Schwinn Tempo he has up usually sells for $250-350. Actually all the Tenax Schwinns he sells tend to go for 3-4x what you'd find them for (on ebay or craigslist).

The Cinelli he's selling has mid tier cromor tubing and 6400 bits. Nice bike but a similar frame and build would be maybe ~$400. Add a bit more for the cinelli cache. Any higher a price youre well into the 531/SL category.

He bought the Cinelli for significatly under what he's selling it for. Not sure who in their right mind would pay $800 for just the frame like he claims:

I'm wont disagree. Just stating the fact that you are paying a premium because the bikes are often repainted/refinished and meticulously gone over. and like rcardr stated, he doesnt have to defend himself to me or anyone else.

It sure isn't much like the Cinellis I'm familiar with. It's not like the old SC or B models.
