If I only had an extra $800, but then again it doesn't have those great capped dropouts.

It would look much better if they turned the seat post 180 degrees.

It is not what you think it is, merely a "tribute" bike.

You are right, I believe it's a Trofeo and not an X4 Argentin. Still, a nice bike in its own right (and not exactly common, either).

2009 giant tcr frame value in a hot market? I'm trying to get a general idea how much would be to much to pay for an entry-mid level frame when building. Pretty sure it's a 2009 giant tcr alliance 1 frame. I think the seller is a flipper and didn't list much about it purposely thinking a buyer will assume it's one off the $2500 bikes and snag someone for the entire bike value. I think the frame was considered mid to entry level, the blue book is $450-615 for the entire bike in fair-good condition, retail msrp was $1700- looks like it needs $200-300 in parts? I can't see much from the photos but from what I can tell I see scratches but no cracks listed as "good condition", I'm not sure if there is a problem with the crank? (or any other immediate problems?)

Such a delicate-looking crankset. Has Reynolds 531 and Nervex lugs, though (not to mention an attractive price):

In the same vein, but further up the food chain (though still reasonable), as well as further (much further) geographically:

Schwinn Voyageur 1990

[h=2]Schwinn Voyageur 1990 - $350 (Springfield)[/h]

1990 Schwinn Voyageur touring bicycle. If you know what this is, then you already know what this is. Made of 100% Tange chromoly (frame and fork) and fully lugged. The Voyageur was made for heavy loaded touring. Has all the braze-ons you would expect from a fully loaded touring bike, double eyelets front and rear racks, double eyelets front and rear fenders, and three water bottle mounts. Has a long wheel base, which is preferred for touring. Also, has bar end shifters (Index and friction modes), and canti-lever brakes. Lots of room for wider tires and fenders. Triple crankset means you have all the low gears you would expect out of a touring bike. Made in Japan. Paint is a gray metallic, and is in fantastic, gleaming shape (fresh wax). A couple of rub marks on the drive side seat stay and fork, but absolutely no rust or dents anywhere on this frame. Spec'ed with solid, workaday Japanese components from top to bottom.

Frame measurement: This would be a good fit for someone over 6' 1" to about 6' 4".
Seat tube: center to center: 63.5 cm
Top tube: center to center: 63.5 cm
Component List:
Front Derailleur: Suntour XCE
Rear Derailleur: Suntour XCE AccuShift Plus
Shifters: Suntour Bar End Shifters AccuShift
Crankset: Suntour XCE 170mm 50/44/28T
Pedals: MKS Quill w/ alloy clips
Brake calipers and levers: Dia-Compe XCE w/BRS
Wheelset: Rims: Araya M18 27c 1-1/4. 36 spoke front, 40 spoke rear
Tires: Paramount Passage 27 x 1-1/4
Freewheel: Suntour AccuShift Plus 7 speed, 13-28T
Headset: Tange SE-II Sealed
Saddle: Voyageur Gel Lyra
Handlebars: SR Modolo Anatomic Bend, wrapped in Cinelli natural cork bar tape
Post and Stem: SR

Selling for $350, firm, cash only. This is basically a Rivendell Atlantis model bike, which Rivendell sells for $2300 (frame and fork only). This was the top of the like touring bike of its era, built to compete with the Specialized Expedition and Miyata 1000, and is today priced lower than a China-made hybrid. Save your money, use the savings to buy those Berthoud or Honjo fenders I know you have your eye on, and build up the cross country touring bike of your dreams. This platform will get you there. If this bike was my size, they would be burying me on it in fifty years. But it's not, so here you go. No rush to sell, lowballers will be ignored. Pickup in Springfield (evenings) or at the Franconia Springfield Metro if you're coming from the city. Thanks!

Vintage Bianchi Mareno Argentin Limited

I am not even sure this was meant to be a tribute bike. The only mention of Argentin in the '88 catalog (oh yeah this is an '88) is the name of this color scheme 'Argentin Celeste'. I actually think Argentin had moved on from Bianchi by then. That Formula 2 frame would make a great rider. These are specced and normally seen with Suntour, Modolo, Ofmega mix but I think later bikes may have been 600 or they used some Trofeo frames to fill Limited orders.

Frame paint looks clean. If the chrome is manageable, I'd go for it. Sports rarely go for less than that unless they are real beaters.

Step-through Sports go for a LOT less than the diamond-frame versions.

I've bought a half-dozen step-through "lady" (I hate that term) Sports for $40 or less in really good mechanical shape with very low miles. They needed to be fully tore down, cleaned, polished, all the bearings repacked, and then set up again from scratch because all the grease had dried up in the last 40 years and attempting to ride them without doing this first would destroy them.

Then I turned around and sold them for around $200-300. Time was a couple of years ago when the "Tweed thing" was at full steam I could sell a really nice example for as much as $350 after buying it for $40 and investing about $50-75 into parts (mostly tires, and brake cables/pads.) Some of these bikes looked in showroom shape when I was done. Many of the "lady" sports had so little miles on them that the mold nubs were still on the original rotting tires.

I still see these bikes showing up on the Chicago Craigslist site for under $50. $100 is about the max I'd pay for one and only if it had new tires/brakes already. It depends on how hard they are to find in your local area and how much of a hurry you are to acquire it.

I suppose if you want to buy one that someone else has already fixed up and put the money into it'd be a lot more. But why? Most people mess these bikes up not knowing what they are doing. I'd rather find one that fresh out of the barn and is NOT pre-mangled by some hamfist hack who thinks a hammer is a proper cottered-crank tool.

I hev never seen one of these in person but I think it is a repaint. The paint looks too clean and shiny to be factory from '88/87 (but I think this is more like '88). Also the decals do not look like the type that would have been in common use back then. Some of the details of the paint look a bit more than I would expect from Bianchi even the R.C.. It might just be the difference between the European model and the U.S. X-4 but the components are different. The US market came with a special dark anodized C-Rec brake rather than the Cobalto.

If you looking for a nice riding Bianchi stick with a Mondiale or Super Leggera with the SL/SP or SLX/SPX mix frames. They have a been a few nice looking ones for sale lately. If you can ride a huge one like 61 that one is Austin is a deal.
