Curious about this lot. For my reference, what would be:

- a good price to pay?
- the most one should pay?

The chain rings and cranks look Super Record to me, otherwise mostly NR group. I don't think the BB is Record, (Gran Sport, Victory?). Others with more expertise can comment on brakes, etc. If you need an entire group, are patient and wait for good ( or less bad) prices to buy piece by piece on eBay you would end up paying about $500 for this group, maybe more with shipping thrown in.

How much you should pay is a function of your funds, your needs/desperation, and your patience. Look up sold listings on eBay to see what the rest of us Campy suckers are paying.

There are definitely some very classic bikes from this period - merckx MXL, de rosa Primato, Merlins if you like ti. Bridgestone hit its peak.
How would you rate the early Litespeed titanium bikes?

I think they vary from what I've seen and heard. Others disagree, but I don't think they're on par with Merlins. I haven't been impressed with the ones they subcontract for other builders (Merckx, Look, Basso, etc.). I have a Litespeed MTB frame from the early 90s and I like it a lot, but I use it as a commuter. My demands on it are not great. My mid-late 9-s Litsespeed Look was nothing worth getting excited about and the lone Litespeed roadie I owned was flexier than my Merlin and more twitchy.

To me - I'd rather have a Serotta or Merlin.

I wonder what is Campagranola the seatpost or the rims?

According to the item description, it's the headset and the dropouts.

Moots should be added.

I could easily see ordering one for my 60th birthday/retirement gift.

In the meantime, I think my ti Warbird will suffice.

I have no idea who built my ti Warbird, but it surely rides like a champ.

Can't wait to put it through its paces this spring.

I think you mostly need to do a lot of reading. It's pretty amazing how subtle some of the changes are. This forum, the Classic Rendezvous list, and sites like Classic Lightweights, Velobase, and Disraeli Gears all have valuable information. I don't think there is a one stop shop anywhere.

You guys remember Sir Mike? I don't think he's been around here much lately but he's selling a very pretty Manton and Smith "lightweight" from the 40s or 50s. Not really a correct resto and not realy all that light but a fun singlespeed anyway. Frank the Welder gave me a very similar one several years ago. He's only asking $135..

I'd love a Moots, but I was really thinking more of 90s bikes. There are a host of modern ti bikes I'd be thrilled to have.

Gotcha.

I've got Moots on the brain.

My local shop is a dealer and I'm a very easy sale.

Velobase.com is a good place to start.

Ri fled cups, so should be Record. Price currently doesn't seem too bad for a full group. Description lists Italian BB, but British headset (though says the other is available for each). If I were interested, and wanted British for example, I would ask for pics of the British BB. And vice versa if I wanted Italian thread.

I have one, and I like it a lot. I got a deal on it, so it was a no brainer. They are stiff and light relative to steel. Would I upgrade to something else? Yes, but only titanium, and I have to *know* that it's better. A Merckx AX came up shortly after I got my Litespeed, arguably in a better size for me, but I didn't pull the trigger.

Doesn't seem particularly unreasonable in terms of cost, but TT experts can chime in.

If the ad is suggesting that this is an actual pro-ridden bike that saw competition at the highest levels of the sport, then I agree that the opening bid seems reasonable for a Merckx bike with that sort of provenance.

Second from the top of the Miyata "racing" line...the Team was their top one. This one looks in pretty good shape...and not a bad price...maybe a bit high...but I bet negotiating would work...

I'm considering that deal as merely a bike, and not as a true team bike. Road Merckx 7-11 framesets alone can approach 1000 on Ebay, and this is for a funny bike. I can't imagine too many bikes having a greater potential draw than this - perhaps THE classic paint job, as well as the funny bike cachet. Pretty crazy collectible if you ask me. I'd be interested but I'm in Canada. Can't imagine too many bike collectors not wanting this bike in their stable.
