safety tips

Awesome is this bike's middle name.

What's not Awesome is how this bike is slowly ruining my knees and back. This is a 56cm frame, and I am 6'1".
Recent tune-up, truing. 14 speed. Great daily ride.

Just saw this one tonight also. Too small for me as well and Canondale not really my thing anyway. Will be a nice deal for someone.

Sad, but one never knows the story. The frame could have been wrecked before it was chopped. I'm also not persuaded that this didn't come from a Record, or some model similarly distant from being "top of the line".

There was a similar auction 10 years ago. It was a crankset with the bottom bracket still attached. Someone took a frame, and hacksawed all the frame tubes an inch or two from the bottom bracket. Then there was the guy lately(last year or two) that posted a video of a decent condition Raleigh Super Course being hatefully smashed with a sledge hammer or other weapon, because no one wanted to give him what he wanted for the bike(Which was overpriced of course). It has really become a messed up, and stupid world out there.,,,,BD

Funny you mention it, but I have 3 bikes saved under my Craigslist favorites, this was already one of them. I agree it is very nice looking Mercian at a great price, but I am resisting the urge to add another bike. Well, that is not entirely true, I am thinking of adding a custom that will accept larger tires and be able to downsize a bit (n+1 = n-3 hopefully).

That one will languish for a while. There aren't many tall riders out there.

You could always go to the "Grant"-side with one of Riv's frames. I went down n-3, only to go back up n+1 earlier this year. I still have some frames that I could build.

I can't remember, are early 70s Super Sports electroforged, or fillet brazed? If the latter, this might be worth the $30 asking price:

Cannondale - Black Lightning Bike
I built one even smaller for my wife several years ago from a frameset I got on closeout from one of my dealers and with black components I assembled from other shops I called on at the time. It was great to have a pool of about 100 bike shops I got to visit regularly under the guise of doing business.

Nicely priced Trek 620 in Philadelphia. Looks to be one that had the color wrap on the head tube, which to my knowledge the catalog does not show or mention.

Used to see that in the classic car scene, but they were never that spiteful about it. People would be parting out cars and seeing if anyone wanted anything from them. That's when you get the beggars coming in with their sob stories trying to get any parts that they can for free. It was never worth the time and hassle, though, and they would take what didn't sell o the recycle yard. I understand where they'd coming from, though, as people trying to lowball and beg really bring the community down. I'm not saying everyone needs to be rich to enjoy these things and pay a premium, but there's an expected value for certain things that you should be willing to pay.
Though I never seen anyone spitefully smash up a working car because it would sell. That guy with the bike sounds like he had some issues.

I've been tempted when dealing with cottered cranks on old Raleighs.

He's got a lot of them. You can usually tell this seller by white seats and bar tape.

$2000! I wouldn't be one bit surprised if that is how much he has invested in it, but this guy is off by quite a bit...

This is a classy custom built Bridgestone RB-1. Everything is proper Japanese components except for the saddle and tires. It doesn't get any better than this. Professionally built and maintained. Paint and decals were redone recently and the drivetrain has no more than 2000 miles on it.
