RARE Vintage Trek 1984 890 All Terrain Bike - $450

RARE 1984 TREK ALL TERRAIN BICYCLE. This is first year Trek built an All Terrain bike. The main triangle is hand-crafted from Reynolds oversize 501 tubing brazed in an upright geometry. Tires are 26x15 radial. I have the original tires and have installed new set of Schwalbe Marathon Kevlar Guard Tires. Color is grey metallic with red graphics. I have owned this bike since new. I purchased the bike directly from Trek owner Dick Burke. I was employed in another company that Dick Burke owned. The bike is in very good condition. Frankly, it was not used very much. I thought I was into biking and I was not.

I good friend recently picked one of these up in Chicago. He really enjoys it. $350 is steep, but with new tires it might be worth it. Those pedals would have to go though. Good to know it has only had one owner that apparently took care of it.

Interesting connection to Dick Burke. Excellent condition.

61cm Trek 14 speed early 1980's ready to ride 6'0 to 6'3
[h=2]61cm Trek 14 speed early 1980's ready to ride 6'0 to 6'3 - $200 (Lowell)[/h]

I for sale a vintage early 1980's Trek 14 speed roadie 61cm Reynolds 531 double butted giving frameset Shimano/Suntour mixed drive train, 27" alloy presta valve wheels and Continental Sport tires. The bike was recently tuned up with new gear cables, new brake pads and new bar tape so its ready to ride without any issues. The bike's paint does show some age but the Reynolds frames gives a buttery ride and a vintage Trek for under $300 is hard to beat. Sold for cash and pick up only. Please mention name, item, location and a phone number for a response all other emails will be considered spam. Thanks

Wonder what the real age is on that big brown Trek? When was the last year Trek made a road bike w/o cable guides brazed onto the top tube?

Going from the price lists for 1980 at Vintage Trek, I would say 1978 or 1979 is the last year that top tube cable guides were not standard.

I bet when Dick Burke owned it, the saddle wasn't pointed down so sharply as it is now.

LBS has a Motobecane Mirage II $100, and a Nishiki Olympic 12 $150. Both look like back of the garage finds, grime and light surface rust but no obvious dents or dings. I can get more pictures next time I'm in if anyone expresses an interest.

I kind of doubt this is a good deal (not much of a Bianchi person - they all look green to me ). As the seller provided no frame size or pictures, I asked. Here are the pix. Seller didn't know the size but said he's 6'0". Looks 60-62cm-ish to me. The bike does look to be in good condition, but for $1900 I was expecting a bit nicer level of components. Looks like Campy Triomphe to me.

I picked this 1986 Schwinn Super Sport at Craiglist for 120 dollars. It came with all its original components except a new saddle and new tires. It was rusted and scratched as hell but otherwise in great condition. After a lot of elbow grease, removing all rust, touching up scratches, cleaning and regreassing drivetrain/hubs, new vintage correct cables and housing, new toe clip straps, it turned out into a great bike. Fits me perfectly at 54 cm. I spent about 50 $ additionally on it and this is how it is looking now. I think I got a bargain, very happy with it:

Frame is Columbus tenax, CrMo, billet brazed joints, araya weels, all Shimano 600 EX components, solid as a bullet. Really happy with the bike.

One thing that confuses me, the badge says Schwinn Chicago but by 86 I think these were made in Geenville, Missisipi, or Japan. The badge was not attached when I got it and the seller gave it to me separately. I wonder if they were still using Schwinn Chicago badges after 83?, perhaps the badge is from another bike.

In case anyone is wondering what color to do touch up paint for this bike, I found testors red 1103 and classic black enamels match up pretty well.

^ Yeah, I wondered about that as well. I figured they come with the bike as a theft deterrent. OTOH, this might be an excellent situation to meet the seller in the police department parking lot.

I really like this one and am hoping someone reaffirms for me that it is $100-$150 too high.
