That frameset would be a groove with a 7700 groupset.

I have one stashed for something......

Nice! That's a real deal!

If I didn't have another bike coming soon, I'd probably grab this one.

Not my brand preference so don't know much about them. Could be some fun projects or teardowns for someone near ATL: Vintage bikes and bike rack

The Raleigh is already gone (in my garage)...and the Schwinn is in VERY rough shape!

Sweet. I could potentially check out the TeamUSA above that if it's of high interest.

Are these desirable as riders? From what I've read, they are the top of the heap wrt Sport/Touring models from Raleigh that year. I have looked around in the past for a geometry chart, but haven't had any luck. There's one in my general metropolitan area, but it would be functional duplicate to bikes I already own (not that such a limitation has stopped me - or seemingly anyone else on this list - before ).

Some Raleigh Records were given a Raleigh Team paint job. I've heard of these and they show up from time to time.

I honestly have no clue. Raleigh and Schwinn are two (very different) brands outside of my realm of general knowledge, well, other than whatever I see here in C&V about them. I did some digging here 10 minutes after the seller posted that bike on CL just to check out whether it was desirable or not. Seems a lot of people like them, and as of a couple of years ago, the bike is probably worth about 80% more than they're asking, possibly 2x or more to the right buyer.

The paint job on the RW&B bikes is one of those "I guess, if that's your thing...." deals IMHO. I had an all-chrome '84 Team USA bought from a BF member then re-sold to another BF member, but never actually dropped wheels and pedals on it to see how it rode. It was a well put-together bike, looked great, but it didn't have the finesse I associate with central-european bikes.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a hater of much of anything C&V, I just typically stick with 60s-80s French and occasionally venture into 70s/90s Italian when opportunity presents itself. And I'd love to have a nice German Edi Strobl in my posse.

PS - A+ on the Chronic Town cover.

Yeah - I find the RW&B somewhat off-putting but if the geo is right and the ride is sublime I can overlook it. Reminds me of the "special editions" that auto manufacturers conjure up to boost sales as certain models get late into their runs.

There are more details here:

Schwinn Prelude

[h=2]Schwinn Prelude - $325 (Brookline) [/h]

I got a 1986 (87?) Schwinn Prelude Road bike in 56 cm. It is one sweet and funky 80's ride. I bought it a while back but it is a bit small for me and I have to thin the herd. It offers sweet colors and a very relaxed yet responsive geometry... this baby is FAST. It will not include the saddle pictured, but it will have the original super funky Sella Italia Saddle that came with it in its ORIGINAL BAGGING (or a reproduction Turbo saddle). Really rare to find original saddle in NOS shape. I have upgraded the front brake to a Cane-Creek SCR-5 (original can be located). Has recent new (black) tape on the drops. Bike has barely been used (original owner used only a handful of miles and I've likely ridden only around 60 miles, if that) and still sports original tires (need replacing due to age). I would replace tires but to me that is a subjective preference for the next owner to make. I do not need to sell the bike, so I am quite firm on the price considering the upgrades and the condition of this bike... Gets hipster envy everywhere she goes! If she doesn't sell, i am making her into a sweet roadie with bullhorns and TT levers... maybe

Per the same link from Sheldon above: 1985 Raleigh USA Bicycle Catalogue Page 3

That page displays an Olympian, of course, I've read some Raleigh USA Olympian threads,

Yellow Jersey has an Olympian page as well: Raleigh 1983 Olympian from Yellow Jersey Archives

It seems the same sort of deal, people don't speak up for Olympians, I figure its good, made in Japan but there are other good deals out there.

Vintage 1980's Raleigh Team USA 14 Speed Road Bike-555SL Chrome Moly.

This Raleigh has the quickstand that "keeps the bike from going anywhere without you"
1985 Raleigh USA Bicycle Catalogue Page 3

Quickstands lock up the front wheel; surely someone still makes those, they were very handy.

You can see the one here under the shifters.

Smaller 1983 Schwinn Voyageur SP in Bay Area for $250 or offer.

1983 Schwinn Voyageur SP Touring Bicycle

Someone was looking for a small one of these a few days ago but the search here is awful so I can't find thread. This one is 4130 chromoly, not the Columbus tubing used some years, but a beauty and fair price around these parts.

That Lemond frame is still up for $125; nice.
https://tulsa.craigslist.org/bop/5415479213.html
It has the crank but frames by themselves are rather cheap to send.
