Anybody know what's up with this De Rosa in Colorado Springs? He's been trying to sell it for years now, $600 seems like a pretty good deal. THe fork could be a replacement, maybe it's been crashed?

Vintage Italian De Rosa- Price Reduced!

It was sitting at $900 all winter, so that's a big price drop. I recall he normally has it at $750, so maybe he's finally ready to let it go.

Wish it was my size.

Nice Bike - $120 (Miami, FL)

Nice Bike

Good bike, very light, red, want gone soon.
Clueless seller? Most likely stolen in this case. This fits the typical M.O. for stolen bike sales on CL in the SE USA: Leave out the brand name and details of the bike so an owner hunting CL can't find, use as few words as possible, "quick sale", no explanation about it, list at a fraction of actual price, act stupid in email/phone conversation, like you found it in your garage or your uncle died and it was in his garage when you cleaned it out...

This is one I'd buy and run the bike through Bike Index and call local PD for the nearby counties to see if anyone reported it stolen.

I hope you're wrong with your jumping to conclusion, as I just sent the seller a USPS MO. He appears to be straight up and lives in an area of comfortable $250K homes.

I hope so too! Congrats nonetheless on the buy, wasn't trying to piss in your Cheerios by any stretch . I'd just be careful and run the numbers on it when you get it. Last thing you want to do is sell it down the road, have it come back stolen and you catch the charge. There was a great post here several years ago about that happening to a member who returned a stolen bike from under a bridge, only to have the cops nail him for a cheap bike he bought from a roommate.

I spend a fair amount of time in Gainesville, Miami and the Tampa/St Pete area due to work & family, that CL ad screams of those two situations I've dealt with: An old person died and left it behind (estate or family resale), or it's stolen. I've bought a few of both in the past decade with similar ads in GA and FL, both failing to include any names off the bike and components whatsoever - when you consider the minimal effort involved, I suspect it's intentional for the scum selling stolen stuff and laziness or oversight by those who don't know the actual value. I've also picked up a Yamaha 454 LTD motorcycle and a couple of other bikes on CL which were similar from rental property owners where the renter left them behind and never returned to claim. You just never know until you get it and run the serial numbers.

Sometimes I wish we had a way to run serial numbers through law enforcement databases. Would make it a hell of a lot easier, and I suspect a lot of us could more easily be reunited with our stuff.

You know, one of the nicest things about living in Mexico is that the dollar goes so much further. I sometimes find myself wishing I could join you northerners and scoop up some of these nice bikes. Then it dawns on me that if that were the case, money would be tight. And around and around she goes; where she stops nobody knows.
Carry on

The fellow that owns the Vuelta is moving to Atlanta, about 160 miles from me, and I have relatives there. I made him an offer, like I need another road bike (like most of us here)! Maybe it will be too big.

I am pretty sure that red Pinarello for $500 in Austin is a Montello; the entire frame appears to be chrome plus the little details like paint outlines on the seat stays are extra nice. Either way, a great deal.

Based on what I remember digging through catalogs trying to figure out what mine was, looks like the latter half of the 80s Montello - chrome triangle, commemorative '84 sticker, etc. Excellent price, especially all DA. Due for a repaint, but the entire frame is chrome and it looks like it didn't see a lot of corrosion, unlike the blue one that follows it (note the freckles on the chainstays of that one)

Should have my hands on it within the week. I'm gambling it is an International circa 1974ish.
