SCHWINN PROLOGUE 54CM JAPAN ROAD BIKE

Finally met up with the owner tonight...drove 5 hours round trip (250 miles), and it ended up being a total bust. He left for out of country for 2.5 weeks, and he just got back today, so tonight was the earliest that I can meet up with him.

It is definitely in rough shape as expected, but it had pretty big dent on top tube under the cable, and worse it looked like the frame was damaged and badly fixed and covered up with white repaint. Also it was missing front derailleur, seatpost collar, and rear wheel skewer. When I called him, he assured me that there were no dings Oh well, my search continues.

I think the price on this one makes it more of a candidate for the wacky world of CL thread. That's a Le Tour for Paramount money.

With Campagnolo dropouts, I think that is a Super Corsa. Nice price, even if components are mixed.

I saw this bike on the dailylister site, and my first thought was, seeing as it's post-92, who specced it and built it? Waterford?

Bummer man, been there & done that. You just never know what you're going to find on the other end. On the plus, at least it wasn't something you bought and shipped, nothing sucks worse than getting something damaged (either before or during shipping) then having to deal with the return or getting money back. I got two bikes off eBay last week in superb condition - including the little original numbered shop assembly stickers! - only to find both bikes had their chainstays crushed half flat by whoever the jackass was that put it together. Awesome haul quickly became two parts bikes.

I have no idea about the bicycle. Thank you for your response. I do like Le Tours, I have no idea about the specifics and what this is about saying it is a 100th anniversary one. It must mean the anniversary of the Schwinn Corporation.

One of these days, Trek or Schwinn, I need to get one of their finer bikes. I don't know the ropes so much in this fashion. I brought up this Le Tour because I was reading the other thread and an acquaintance had a sharp one he rides around the neighborhood.

Gosh, I'm very sorry to hear that. Sometimes, I can't imagine the kind of force that would crush such bikes. One hears of these stories, I haven't gotten much per mail delivery in full frames but I have not had that happen. My bikes have been hi-ten steel in that regard. Unfortunately, another reason to go local.

Yeah, me either. Maybe I'm giving up too easy, and I'm sure the pics won't do justice on depth of crushing, but it's deep enough I can't fit my finger through, so 30%-40% crush on average at the deepest spot? Maybe not quite "catastrophic", but I'd feel guilty giving this to my co-op as a donation. Sucks, pristine paint for 37 year old bikes.

Good news: I can at least get my money back out from the parts (then some), and now I've got two practically new cottered Nervar cranksets with Swiss cups that could come in handy one day... maybe sell the socked forks.

Right one is worse crush than the left, and the gouges continue under the kickstand clamp. Click for larger images.

Looks like a mid-late 70s Raleigh Record in Asheville NC. Assuming it's not worth asking because of the cottered crank and stem shifters, but dunno. Too far for me either way.

This cherry red Ciocc is ******, I'd change the bar tape to white though.

This is the kind of nice Raleigh Grand Prix with the Carlton Brake Hoods (white) and the benotto-cello-like handlebar ribbon tape on the alloy bars (original '70s). And in fact, a Wright's saddle too that I'm sure can be revived quite a bit. And still the Simplex shifters and rear and probably front derailleurs, I'm sure a number of people would say $200 is too much; maybe. There are a lot of nice bikes out there for that much and over gets some very nice ones. Still a nice bike and a nice Grand Prix per one with suicide levers. I don't think people regularly part out the Carlton embossed white hoods but they can.

The green bikes I think had some of that benotto-cello-like green ribbon tape on some, unsure what the white or red ones did. They did that to a number of the blues, it looks like it has mainly gotten a bit of climate effect and is in good shape.

https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hn...459098373.html $200 for this one too, same accompaniments really, the tape, hoods but not the leather seat.

"a moth riding bike", so I take it that means light, I haven't heard that expression.

An interesting comparison is Motobecane Mirages, Nomades compared to Raleigh Grand Prixs (and perhaps Records). I've heard the two companies had a similar hierarchy.

Mirages, especially the lugged ones, are being priced handsomely now, at least $200, a good one for $250.

I may have outed this bike before. The guy is obviously asking too much for it (evidenced by the fact that he hasn't been able to sell it over the course of several months), and for some strange reason keeps listing it without a single picture. Still, it's a Schwinn Volare with the largest (25-inch) frame, which doesn't pop up every day. So, sharpen your rationalization pencils.

I'd go broke if I lived in the twin cities; I've seen a lot of nice bikes move through the CL there.
