Agreed. Here's a 56cm RB-1 for sale in Portland right now:

I guess you pay an extra $350 to have the size correctly identified.

In the early 80's Panasonic, Miyata, Schwinn came out with low end track bikes equipped with brakes. The Schwinn Madison. Can't remember what the Panasonic was called.

Yup, congrats. You're in my vicinity - I'd emailed about that frame before I even saw it posted here.

1984 Lotus Eclair Touring Bike - $400 (Plainfield, CT) hide this posting

image 1 of 8

Rare, original 1984 Lotus Éclair touring bike. Deore drivetrain. I have replaced the following items on the bike: Chain, tires, brake pads, cables and cable housing, bottom bracket and headset. The decals were in pretty rough shape when I got the bike, so I removed them. The paint is OK, no rust or dings, but there are some touch up spots. I have a set of top tube decals on order, but they have not arrived yet. I will be adding them to the bike when they get here. The fork is original to the bike, and has been powder coated. It is not a perfect match, but very close. Nice 40 spoke rear wheel and 36 spoke front wheel. Wheel bearings have been serviced. Includes a Blackburn rack. Bike rides like new. This would make a great commuting bike, or it is ready as is to go on tour. Size is 54cm, suitable for someone from around 5'7" to 6' Stand over height is 32.5". I'm asking $400.00 for the bike, but I will listen to reasonable offers. Please include "Lotus Touring Bike" in responses to weed out the spammers. Thanks.

*top tube decals installed

I had seen that Motobecane frame a couple hours before it was posted here. If it had been between a 53-56 cm size, rather than 58.5, I'd have probably beaten you both to it. In any case, I'd have tried to.

Good to know. I'm typically a 56-59 or so, depending on geometry. I'll keep an eye out for interesting things in your size.

I don't know about $400 with a powder coated fork (makes me wonder whether the fork needed to be repaired at some point), but the '84 Eclair is a nice riding bike.

Whoever snagged that one was grinning ear to ear as they loaded it into the car. Early Trek with 531 frame and fork, and what looks like Campy Gran Sport. If someone was selling it here they'd be asking $650 for it. I am not saying they'd get it, but you'd never convince them to take a penny less.,,,,BD

Trek Road bike

Yup, those are Reynolds decals, those decals on the forks didn't stay on real well so to find a bike with those is kind of rare I would think, mine came off my 84 Trek 660 about 15 or so years after buying it new, probably if I had half a brain back then I would have tried to glue them back on.

After looking more closely at the picture I have a feeling, though may be incorrect, that the Reynolds decals may be aftermarket, the reason I have that thought is because the model decal of the bike is missing, why would that decal be missing but not the Reynolds when the Reynolds was by far the easiest to come off and to come off a lot sooner than the manufacture brand and model decals? Like I said I could be wrong but it does seem odd.

The bike could also be a repainted frame and they only could find the decals for Trek and Reynolds but not the model of the Trek in question.

Trek Reynolds 531 frameset
You never know: The '79 Trek 510 (Ishiwata 022) that I just sold the complete bike for $275 with SunTour Cyclone friction and similar level Japanese components all around was in essentially the same condition - although it was well built-up and in fully tuned shape. Although, honestly, when I listed it for $275, I expected to actually sell it for $220-250. They guy who bought it actually considered the ugly cosmetics a feature, because he was going to be commuting with it and locking the bike up outside

Trek Reynolds 531 frameset
Photographs can do some weird things depending on angle and lighting, I could be wrong but it appears the fork may be slightly bent back, which would be repairable assuming nothing else on the frame got damaged in the process. If the fork is not bent back and even though the paint is rough I think the frame is worth the asking price; the buyer may want to do a repaint and new decals to restore it but it was a very good tubeset with Reynolds 531cs which was the 3rd lightest frameset of the 531 series but had no where near the flex of the Reynolds 531c or the 531p due to the c and p (p weighed about 100 grams less than c and thus had a weight limit of either 150 or 160, I can't recall, and c was 175, again if memory serves me correctly) having thinner tube wall thicknesses to reduce weight. Some people think that cs was made exclusively for Trek but in reality that wasn't true because at least two other manufactures Holdsworth and Coventry used the cs tubeset, but Trek was the largest user of the tubeset.

I'm fairly sure that fork is straight, and that is an artifact of the angle the photo was taken at. I do agree that, cosmetics aside, that's one of the more desirable Trek frames.

IIRC, Treks didn't have model numbers on the frame until around 83, and then it was only on the chai stay protector. 84 was the first year they had Trek and the model number on the downtube.,,,,BD

That ad is still live! I've sent a query for the standover height - that does not look like a "medium" frame. I was thinking more like 49cm or something, judging by the headtube. But there is something funky about the frame geometry - the top tube slopes downward from back-to-front, like a TT bike? If those are 27-inch wheels, the standover has to be at least 31 inches. I may just pick this one up myself.
