Have you checked out this bike? "Frame needs work" sounds quite onerous.

I haven't, looks like the chromed chain stays have a bit of rusting going on, no idea to what extent though. hopefully it would be just some surface rust.

Wow.
Jump on that one - by Bob Hovey's site, this is a California Masi, #983.

Masi Dates

I have an Italian of roughly the same vintage, and wouldn't think of letting it go for that amount of money.
And that's a 61 cm, although I believe Masi measured center-to-top. At least mine is.

Really, really, large (71 cm) 1974 Paramount. Looks very nice but so tall it makes the wheels look small!

That is quite a deal! As f living in SoCal wasn't reward enough! I am interested in that one. Would any SD residents be interested in a split? Frame/fork for me, everything else for facilitator? Looks to be my size 56 -57.

J.P. Weigle Randonneur Bicycle - $2000

image 1 of 9

condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: JP Weigle

Large JP Weigle Randonneur Light Touring bicycle.

59cm st c-c
58cm tt c-c
16cm ht between the headset cups
22cm ht bottom-top of headset

Fender eyelets, braze-ons for front and rear racks and 3 water bottle mounts make this an ideal candidate for a light touring rig. The frame is in good used condition with some minor scuffs in the paint. No dents or dings. Pictured with 38c tires, will prob support 32c w/fenders.

The cantilever studs will not accommodate modern cantilever brakes, they are spaced much closer than modern studs (6cm vs 8cm measured on one of my modern bikes). Installed Mafac brakes have the best fit of other brakes tried but they do have limited adjustibility in terms of toeing in brake pads and pad position on rim. There may be other options out there but I haven't tried them.

For sale is the frame/fork, Campagnolo Chorus headset, Campagnolo 9speed long cage derailleur, Campagnolo front derailleur (NOS- freshly installed), Campagnolo Triple Crankset 175mm, Mafac cantilever brakes, Mafac brake levers and brand new Cane Creek brake hoods. New Nitto Technomic stem 120mm, and new 48cm Nitto Noodle handlebars, Shimano bar-end shifters.

No wheels, skewers, seatpost, saddle or pedals will be included.

One can research the different Ishi-tubings for themselves, someone might like this Ross.
I contacted this seller, the notorious "Schwinderella", 20 minutes after the bike went up on CL. It was listed at $200 then. I told him I would like to come take a look at it tonight, and if I liked it, pay his asking price.

Then I went to lunch. When I came back a half hour later, the price had bloated to $260.

Now, the 531-tubed Tom Kellogg signature Ross is going to some lucky soul for $275. That seller told me he knew he could start a bidding war, but decided to honor his original asking price. According to Andrew Muzi of Yellow-Jersey, Ishiwata 022 tubing indicates that the tubeset for an average 54-56cm frame weighs 2.2 kilograms. One would surmise that the 024 version, which I've seen called "ultra-strong", weighs in at 2.4 kilos for the same size tubeset.

I have a 531 frame in 56cm here, and it weighs just a tick over 4 lbs, so less than 2 kilos. So obviously the 531 tubing is lighter, and by most accounts I've read and heard, superior. All of which is a long way of saying that I was a buyer for this Ross Aristocrat at $200, but not so much at $260.
