I'm a humble guy ;)

Actually three:

A wood rimmed frejus at $500 which I didn't know enough about at the time to snag.
The Ross.
A pink lotus super aero pro...but I did eventually get one (unfortunately not pink).

DQ...you might enjoy this thread:

A scion of the Ross family chimes in and it's very interesting stuff.

Ross was a big deal near me because it was Allentown. When I was of that age, people had moved on from De Rosa/Colnago lust and a TK designed Merlin was THE most lusted for bike no one I knew could afford. One guy let me ride his at the NE airport training races once...it made my Spwcialized Sirrus seem like a Flexy POS.

Vintage Elswick Bicycle - Made in England - $550

Looks to be in great condition. I don't really know where Elswicks stand in the pantheon of English bikes; I wouldn't pay $550 for it, but perhaps someone knows more than I about this:

I'm glad you got that bike DQrider, it looks like a real winner!

CuttersRidge 11-02-16 10:07 AM

That seller in Plymouth seems okay, and he overhauls the bikes from what I can tell. He has some nice bikes come through fairly often if not exactly from the goldmine.

CuttersRidge 11-02-16 10:12 AM

They aren't real old but the Scwinn Criss-Crosses are nice, winter bikes especially should one have to go through some awful weather.

It's got the special derailleur in from of the cog cluster for that one year, I wish that was done more.

Very attractive, here is the Bob Jackson Cycles website.

So, the lug on the headtube has those holes in it, it looks like for a lamp I gather.

WOW.

What a beautiful bike. It looks smaller than a size 56 though.

Nice bike but I thought radial lacing a high flange Nuovo record hub was a no no.

Over-priced, but could be nice with a bunch of elbow grease.

condition: good
make / manufacturer: Centurion
model name / number: Elite RS
size / dimensions: 58cm - 23"
Superb road bike. I've put lots of love into this ride but am finally ready to part with it for something new. Its an 80's era Centurion with mostly campagnolo components. It's got drop handlebars with integrated levers. The chain is a little rusty in the photos but I plan to replace it before making a sale. I'm a mechanic so feel free to ask any condition questions (I'm not bashful)
do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers

Lateral strength is mainly in the rim, so it doesn't matter how the wheel is laced.

Radial strength in torque is in lacing and goes roughly as the square of the crossings, so a 4x pattern is 16x stronger than a radially laced wheel. If you choose to lace a rear hub in radial, particularly a vintage hub and rim, expect disaster.

On the front, it doesn't matter so much because it never sees the level of torque as the rear.

All that said, it looks cool, but I'd never do it on the front, either. If I bought that, I'd check it out, and if it was suspicious, I'd relace it.

I don't think the concern is how strong the wheel is:

Norco Monterey SL - $145

70's vintage Norco road bike--all original, excellent

https://images.craigslist.org/00W0W_...G_1200x900.jpg

For sale a classic 12 speed road bike from Canadian company Norco. Monterey SL model 56 cm frame with nice lug work and paint, and "NORCO" engraving in seat stays.

Sugino GT cranks, new Shimano sealed bottom bracket, Suntour Superbe group including indexing "power shifters". ARAYA alloy 27" rims are true, with new Panaracer tires. Side pull brakes have fine-adjustment feature.

This rare classic was purchased in Quebec, Canada, and still has original bar tape (I'll include new rolls), and a great NORCO handlebar bag.

Clean, lubed and adjusted, everything works perfectly.

$145

Thanks for looking. Jon

That's a rear pista, and a different hub than the Record high flange set in the original post. Everything I wrote stands. If you want to put too much torque on any hub that's been treated poorly, you get the same thing. Radial on the rear is very bad. Radial lacing on the front shouldn't matter too much.
