Given the build...I'd say $400ish less...but the point remains. BUY and please take off the basket. Pretty please.

I agree that it's a non-standard presentation for such a bike, but it's only a sacrilege if it was built up this way and then never used. At least it was well done, and the goal might actually have been to make purists twitchy. At least it doesn't have Hello Kitty stickers all over it. Yet.

If you want a front load on a bike not designed for it, it's definitely a wonderful build.

Sure... some P-clamps to mount fenders, and a rack on the back, and a kickstand. Gotta have a kickstand!

I think the De Rosa looks nice the way he did it. Let's not forget that most people find drop bars intimidating. Very easy to put it back to its intended aesthetics.

If you were to load that basket up with goodies, methinks that would be one sketchy ride! Twitchy, indeed. No rack eyelets, is that basket attached to the front skewer?

Are De Rosas prone to lighting on fire if a book and a couple sandwiches sit over the front wheel?

Is a screw driver a bad tool if you can't use it as a hammer?

Hah yeah, but again...looks pretty good for its designed use. City commuter bike in SF...I assume it's a fairly light load for a mile or 2 at a time, if that.

I see touring and rando bikes in your profiles. Have either of you road or criterium raced? Have you experienced the handling on a bike like this? This is akin to putting a donkey cart on a thoroughbred racehorse, or treating your Porche 911 like the 70s faux wood-paneled family station wagon.

Eh. I'd say a better comparison is why take the Civic to get a gallon of milk when you can take the Ferrari?

I had a carbon fiber racing bike for a while...didn't like it. But, I wouldn't have been afraid to put a book in a rack on it either...

I couldn't care about the bars.

Might be fun to zip around on, but it doesn't work with that basket.

It's got nothing to do with looks.

That thing simply wrecks the handling.

Guy should have set up a Cross Check.

A book, sure, but that thing looks like it could haul four full sacks of groceries, haha. Good times on Frisco hills!

I think the analogy that suits this situation is that of a Lamborghini pulling a junk trailer.

Just the act of putting a trailer hitch on it would be sacrilege. That's what they make Chevy's for. The DeRosa is a racing bike, with racing geometry, and wouldn't perform well as a utility or city bike. Hunch-backed Speed Demons who would give their (insert appendage of choice here) for a DeRosa racing bike are understandably horrified to see one being abused in this manner.

Is it going to destroy the bike? No. Is it ruining the bike? No. I also don't especially care about the aesthetics...but if we're talking about does this make sense...or is this an ideal application for this tool....the answer is no. It's a stupid use of this bike as it will never be a good utility bike, it wasn't meant for front loads and the handling will be wonky compared to a bike with a fork and geometry meant to carry a bit of weight there. That basket probably weighs more than the damn fork without anything in it.

It's amazing that this has to be explained.

Oh! I've been waiting so long to use one of these:

Thanks, `Snake!
