@RichSPK

I have a Raleigh Alyeska and always enjoyed the comfy, stable ride. Never had a problem with the seat stays. Since yours broke once, the second break might be related. Also love the color and accents.

Just curious, why Chorus?

Aside from the simple fact it was my first ever CampI group, I just love the look of it. The smooth curve if the that beautiful Monoplanor brake with the graceful pointed cap nuts, shallow low profile crank with the slightly raised area around the mounting bolt. It is just beautiful and functional, with retrofriction shifters. C-Record is nice but has a bit more bulk to its beauty and the Delta brakes can be troublesome setting up and if you happen to put a fatter tire on you may need to readjust them up a little.

Oh right these are the uber rare Saphireno Chorus brakes

Those are actually very cool looking brakes.

Hrmm. I really do need to aquire a 'proper' shiny C/V bike and not some old heap :o

Bianchigirll 03-08-17 03:10 PM

You need to make them shiny! The above pictured Bianchi I bought new, as frame/fork in '90 and aside from built it with some used and some new bits and worked hard to keep it shiny

I guess if it means anything, the second break would point to a less than perfect repair the first time.

Good grief, I need to stop checking this thread. Thats twice now I've ended up buying one because of it. I told myself after I sold the last Merckx that if a similar one came up in my size, I'd buy it.

Ahh good, I can stop thinking about it now. Glad it's "in the family".

I'm not even gonna feel bad about leaving the "beater" patina alone.

jetboy 03-08-17 09:15 PM

ok. that is very tempting even though I already have one. ;) mine has been spread to 130 and I'd be afraid to put it back... so to have an actual vintage capable one. I might wait a day and see if the problem solves itself.

I don't understand this one the bike is a nothing special entry level department store model made in Taiwan really only worth about half the asking price. Plus based on experience these are lousy riders.

I did NOT need to see that. My size, and it's been on my want list for 30 years...

Seller just dropped the price by $50, so maybe there's more room to negotiate.

It's a buyers market, go go go!

If you end up negotiating with the seller, I'd be happy to facilitate pickup/posting. Just saying :thumb:

RiddleOfSteel 03-10-17 02:32 AM

It's actually a 630 model, not a 930 (SN and paint/decals confirm), but it's still 531 and an early vintage Trek. Bike looks in pretty nice original shape. $300 is hard to go wrong at all.
