Splatter Alert. I think this an '89/90ish bike. $170 might be a bit much though w/o a full ChroMo frame.

Solid used bike. I'm not sure what year it is because I got it used, but it is in good working order. I rode it to work (20 mile round trip) last week and it held up great. I'm selling it because I am looking for a commuter bike with more modern features.
That just baffles me. What features could the seller be talking about? Indexed shifting? That's about all I can think of.

C'mon. They want a new bike. What's wrong with that?? Especially here on BF, that shouldn't be that much of an issue.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it, I just don't know what "more modern features" (specifically in regards to commuting) would be.

Disc brakes
Indexed shifting
HG/easy shifting cassettes

Plus things that aren't necessarily modern but better for commuting like: upright posture, fenders, braze-ons for racks, dyno hub etc etc etc

Disc brakes! I hadn't thought of that. I don't know anything about easy shifting cassettes because I haven't come across cassettes or freewheels that I thought were otherwise.

Anyway, I've dragged things off-topic, so I'll stop replying to any further posts on this.

Bike! Hand welded Italian Basso racing bike - $550 (Somerville)

(google map)

make / manufacturer: Basso
model name / number: Columbus Lugged
size / dimensions: 55 cm
Beautiful hand welded light weight Basso racing bike in near mint condition, in search of good home. Made by hand in Italy.
I love this bike but it's too simply too big for me (5'2"); rides smoother than butter.

Specs: Columbus XLS Lugged, Shimano 105 Brakes, Shimano 600 Derailleur, Mavic Wheels, Victoria tires.
55 cm
After market fenders added, along with extra brake levers on the top tubes of the handlebars to get you some extra visibility for city riding.

If you're interested in the bike, please let me know some times that you could check it out. Weekends, Tuesdays, or Thursdays are best for me.

If any of you tall guys out there live close enough to Portland, OR and fancy proper vintage Treks, there is a 64cm 1983 Trek 970 frameset for sale at Community Cycling Center for just $225. I was just there this weekend. Second only to the heat treated 531-tubed 170 model above it (but made with Columbus tubing), made for one year only, and adorned with Super Record when built.

No pictures, though the red did look a little darker than the brochure and other pictures. Could have been a repaint, but the TREK labels/banners looked in great shape. The bike was hanging from their tall ceiling. Geometry is very close to my later, much less rare 560. Of course, with a very rare frameset in my size (even rarer), I am naturally attracted to it. Decisions (with no room to spare)...decisiions...

Geez, if that was 57-59cm, I'd be seriously tempted. I loved my 1983 Trek 760, but it was just too small.

Trek 470 Series 60cm frame 700c tires Complete Shimano 600 Set - $280 (Cambridge)

model name / number: 470
size / dimensions: 64cm
I have a 60cm Trek 400 Series road bike. It is a 12 speed bike with the complete Shimano 600 component, crank and brake set. They are all in great shape and still shine. The 700c gator skin tires make for a fast ride around the city and hold air very well. This bike has no rust and I am putting new grip tape on it this weekend. It is a truly great ride that is super clean and does not need anything. The wheels are true and the hubs are spotless. This is a hard component set to find and on a good looking ride. 207-332-4524

$240 OBO

1988 Specialized Sirrus 12 speed road bike for sale. Same nice lugged steel frame as the Allez model that year. I fixed this bike up for my brother but he doesn't want it. Has new ergo handlebar, brake hoods, brake pads, cables and flat resistant Thickslick tires for cruising around the city. Tuned up and riding smooth and quiet.

Confirmed, looks like a PX-10.

Would check the frame for front end damage, could be the crappy picture but I see bulges in the top tube and down tubes.
