Agreed although I have a couple of Fuji's, commuter/rain bike and stupid light feeling 09 Roubaix pro @18.6lb. The 974 looks like a space age Celeste color to me.

And whatever drop bar Schwinn spec'd on these has a beautiful curve to them.

Also, that Dawes in my size a few posts down, gorgeous bike. And those rims!

I didn't catch that, but it does look like the top tube is very slightly sloped now that I'm really looking at it.
I don't see many Dawes pop up so I figured I'd share...I don't know much about them but did a quick google search to see if it was anything good. Not big on the colors though, and far too large for me lol I wouldn't mind having the Schwinn though...

Your chrome one is gorgeous btw!

Bottecchia Special for $149

I don't really understand why vintage bike enthusiasts ignore most Bottecchias. Perhaps somebody can explain. But this looks like a lot of bike for the money. And beautiful too.

Beautiful, but large. I'm guessing Weinmann brakes, Campy Gran Sport FD, can't be sure about the RD, and cottered cranks (is this bike old enough for those to have been original?). Can anyone peg whether those cranks are Campy?

I guess for someone tall enough who also has the tools and desire to work on cottered cranks, it might be a good deal.

I bought a mid-range Bottecchia and it has a nice ride and looks pretty. They made bikes for every budget and I think that hurts their brand. Their higher-end bikes are very nice. The stamped dropout / hi-ten ones look great but aren't going to get high prices.

Save This Schwinn...

...from further humiliation. First it's the upright bars and "comfy" saddle, next it'll be a kickstand...

1984 Schwinn Peloton Columbus Steel - $300 OBO

"I have a 1984 Schwinn Peloton steel frame bicycle for sale. Super light steel frame built by Panasonic in Japan for Schwinn in the 1980's.

Like new condition bikes like this sell for close to $1000 online. This one is in very good condition cosmetically and mechanically. All original components: (brakes, derailleur, shifters, cables, etc) but the bike is currently set up as a commuter with flat handlebars.

I have the original wheels, tires, handlebars, stem, etc. they will be included with the sale.

Please call or text to set up a time to pick up.

Asking $300 or best offer"

I suppose when one is selling a bike for close to $5000, it's acceptable to hire a pro for the photo shoot. And even a couple shots of a track bike... on a (train) track. Clever.

I sometimes pipe up with something, but CL in NYC is pretty crappy. Even when something nice shows up, it's frequently stupidly overpriced. There are some listings that have been getting re-posted at the same price for years.

I think it is interesting the seller claims it was built in 1943 and "No Expense Was Spared". I would have thought with England at war austerity would have prevailed and no fancy bikes built.

Hey Bianchigirll, I didn't catch that - good point. I'm not as familiar with Hetchins as other marques, I just think they're lovely and I dig the curly stays. Checking at hetchins.org shows that only 57 bikes were produced in '43, the next year it bottomed out at 38. No idea about "No Expense", but I guess regardless of economic conditions those with means could still get what they desired. Like always.
