N+1 and love of neon have me itching....so get rid of this temptaton

1989 top end Nishiki Altron, full Tange Prestige, WOW Factor! - $600

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/bik/6084081067.html

Remember 1989? Miami Vice colors, opening of the Berlin Wall, first written proposal for the World Wide Web, and a young Kenny Souza was named Biathlete (Duathlete) of the year.

While many fine Japanese bike manufacturers were out there, Souza was sponsored by Nishiki, and the Altron was their top tier bike. No surprise that Souza did a photo shoot with the 1989 Nishiki Altron.

The funny part was that Souza had no modesty about his admittedly decent body. If you google 'Kenny Souza Nishiki Altron' you will find Nishiki's full page spread from 1989. You can't miss it.

The Altron model was made for a number of years, both before and after 1989. It represented the pinnacle of cutting edge race gear of the time. Previous years sported the 7000 (latest in aluminum frames) and later years attempted the NFS 650c smaller wheels with triathlon specific geometry.

But 1989 was the sweet spot. 700C wheels, (Mavic with Dura Ace hubs) Tange Prestige frame and fork, fully chromed. Monostay seatstay. Internal cable routing on top tube. Shimano 600 Ultegra drivetrain. This is the Altron you want, and good luck finding another one. Collectors in the know hang on to these, and fine frame builders like Rivendell and Soma use Prestige steel today.

This fine example has a 58cm top tube and a 59cm seat tube, both measured center to center. Standover height is 33-1/2", best for riders in the 6 foot range.

Well cared for and in excellent shape. No frame damage whatsoever, and the original hi-vis yellow finish is in great shape considering it's over a fully chromed frame. Upgraded with STI shifting, making this an absolute dream to ride. Will gladly swap for original downtube shifters and brake levers if you prefer Eroica style.

Your choice of pedals and saddle. Brooks is not included, but I will include a nice Fizik, Avocet or Specialized BG saddle instead.

If you value and embrace the importance of being SEEN on your bike, if you recognize the quality of Japanese workmanship and top end steel, if you see the end of the Reagan years as truly the end of an era, and if you're tall enough, then it's time to let your hair down, channel your inner Kenny Souza and take this baby home. $600 and it's yours.

Don't know anything about these, and I don't really care for it myself but it might interest someone else. Seems a bit odd to me lol. It has Reynolds 531, wrap around stays, wingnuts, and just the one dt shifter (5 spd). Project bike. $75 - Harpers Ferry, West VA

Miyata Seven Ten - $195

This is a basic 12 speed road bike made in Japan that is in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition . Frame size is 23" (58cm) best suited to riders 5'8" to 6 . Made around 1985 and still looks shiny...

I'll deduct for trade ins of any adult size bikes in any condition, even missing parts. And I'll give credit for good condition seats and tires.

Trek 420 Touring Bike- 56cm Chromolly Frame Deore Sport LX Touring - $350 (Newton)

© craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap
(google map)

Bench built with silver solder the old Trek lugged chromoly frames were extremely well built and Trek took such pride the rear dropouts and seat stay lugs with cast with their name. The frame is made from True-temper chromolly similar to Reynolds 501 touring tubeset. The drive train is Shimano Sport LX designed specifically for the riggers of touring. It accepts low gearing and large cassettes for pulling long hills carrying a load that can compensate for weak spring legs. The shifting is 27 speed indexed that can be switched to friction so if the gears are out of adjustment it won't spoil a tour two days from home when switched to friction. The crank has an extremely small granny and the middle and large ring are for half step gearing giving you more unique gears than a conventional crank I can explain the difference on the bike. The bike has been lightly used including centuries and casual use. The tires are excellent. It is not as light as carbon but it is a comfortable and bulletproof bike that can last a lifetime. The price is firm. If the T is easier I can meet you at Riverside and you can ride it home. (No bikes on the green line D train). Please leave a number I can text or call.

Well, it is my size as well and I was looking for one for quite some time. But I recently bought Miyata 414, new Mr Pink frame and new Nature Boy 853 frame so I was not looking to buy. I txted the guy and there was already interest so price already went up. So I posted it here, hoping that someone who actually needs it will snag the bike and I will avoid N+1 for another day or two :-) Well, I gave up and went to see it. Original owner, bought it when he was in high school in 1988. Toured on it all over Europe and here. Some rust, chain and tires are done for but nothing major. So naturally I bought it :-) For quite more than $100 CAD (just under $300USD) but still very happy. Hubs are still smooth, wheels appear to be true and spokes look tensioned (rear is original 40 spoke, everything is original on the bike), brake track does not look worn at a quick glance. So will be taking it apart on the weekend and deciding on build and whether it will need oxalic bath or not.

Palo Alto

We have a Palo Alto frame and some parts, which was inherited, and looking for someone interested in it, or suggestions on how to sell it. I've tried to upload pics but the site wouldn't allow it. It's still in pretty good shape for never being assembled.

Hi bikeem - welcome to the forums. There's a thread for introducing yourself - you could post there and say 'hello' to some folks, and that would help you build up enough posts to at least be able to post a link to the pics. Then you can upload the pics to something like flickr or imgur and give us a link. Generally, though, this sort of thing belongs in the Appraisals forum. If you build up enough posts to start a thread there and post a link, someone will probably help you with the pics (if needed), and people will be able to give you some advice. It will also help to know generally where you're located. Best of luck!

Brilliant pink and fantastic condition Lotus Classique Triathalon series. Full Shimano 105 component group with Campagnolo Record front wheel. Recently tuned, rides great. Excellent tires (700c wheel size).

The frame is very lightweight and made of valuable Ishiwata EXO quad-butted tubing (extremely high quality Japanese steel). Looks awesome and rides awesomely too.
