Don't know if these are worth much or about their quality, but I do like seeing the older Performance bikes...Novara's too, but I don't see either too often.

Here's what you do:

Pick one of your bikes ,tell yourself (and SO if needed) that you're going to sell it, or maybe just the frame, to pay for this one. Have full intentions to do this, but wait until you you ride it one or two more times.

Then forget to sell it. Works for me every time.

Alternate strategy: Have a frame sitting in a closet that you're halfheartedly trying to sell. That frame has "paid" for my last two or three.

Something about this is super cool.

At the same time, I could build a similar machine for ~$200-300 depending on what I have lying around.

Looks like a museum piece.

Centurion Semi-Pro, 24" frame, looks to be in pretty good shape. Seller has it mis-labeled as a Le Mans. I'm exercising extreme self control by not buying it myself.

Retro Viner Road Bike Columbus tubing 55cm - $250 (Fairhaven)

craigslist - Map data OpenStreetMap
74 Washington st
(google map)

make / manufacturer: Viner
After 14 years of holding on to this frame because of a dead dream of rebuilding it, I have decided to give it up. I had planned on powder coating it flat black and getting new decals as you still buy them online and fitting out with modern components...

The bike frame is a super rare Viner Special Professional. Has beautiful star lug cutouts and the top of the line Columbus SL tubing.

Made in Italy bike with Campagnolo front and rear stays and Campy bottom bracket.

I've hung on to this bike for far too long and a toddler and boat restoration consumes my time these days.

Miyata 914 Road Bicycle - $200 (Carlisle)
'

craigslist - Map data OpenStreetMap
(google map)

condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Miyata
model name / number: 914
size / dimensions: 21"
Miyata 914 21" frame road bike. This bike is a 1990 model. It is in very good shape. Well kept. Triple butted Cromoly (chrome molybdenum) frame. Shimano RX100 components (brakes, derailleurs, chainring, cassette, cranks, hubs). First generation index shifting. I would classify it as a "classic". It rides beautifully. Mavic rear wheel and Wolber front. Good tires.

This is a good bike for a smaller person. I'm 5'9" and it is just a hair too small. Probably good for someone between the ages of 8-15 years of age. Great for a woman.

This was a $ 700. when new. No junk here.

Bold claims require strong proof. I suppose someone with lots of photos from that Tour could see how well this matches, but I'm not sure even that would be proof. Talking with some guy in Peru isn't going to cut it.

And that rust doesn't look trivial. I'd like to hear the story of how such a storied bike ended up being treated so badly.

Yeah that's not LeMond's bike. He rode a smaller frame.
