1987 Trek 520 Cirrus touring road bike 19", reynolds 531 - $400 (Cambridge)

craigslist - Map data OpenStreetMap
(google map)

make / manufacturer: Trek
model name / number: Cirrus 520
size / dimensions: 53cm
For sale is a 19" Trek Cirrus 520 touring bike. I bought this as a frameset and rebuilt it with a mix of new and used components as listed below. There's one ugly blemish/dent that the previous owner tried smooth over with bondo.

It's a fairly rare size for this particular bike. This build is optimized for smaller riders: it has a shorter stem, narrow bars, pretty upright riding position as pictured. Too big for its intended rider, so it's a new build that's been shaken down and is ready to ride. Would fit someone 5'2" to 5'7" probably.

Compare to Surly Cross Check or Trucker, All City Space Horse, Rivendell. Reynolds 531 all around, multiple braze ons for racks etc, suitable for touring or camping with gear. $400 obo

Measurements:
Seat tube length: 48cm
Top tube length: 53cm
Head tube angle: 72 deg
Seat tube angle: 73.5 deg
Chainstay length: 45.5cm
Wheelbase: 102.7cm
Rear dropouts 128ish
Seat post: 27.2mm

Frame: Reynolds 531 double butted, Trek butted stays, Trek cast dropouts and lugs
Headset: Hatta, original, overhauled
Stem: 60mm high rise Sakae, vintage
Handlebars: Nitto B114 36cm 'maes' bend, vintage
Shift/brake levers: Shimano 2300 8sp, left is NEW, right is used.
Brakes: Shimano Acera-X cantilever, vintage
Front derailleur: Shimano Claris, NEW
Rear Derailleur: Shimano Tiagra, vintage
Bottom bracket: Shimano BBUN26 cartridge, NEW
Crankset: Sugino Super Maxy, 48t/34t, new chainrings
Seatpost: Icon, super light
Saddle: Italia, turbo shape (prologo as pictured has been changed)
Cassette: Shimano 12-32 NEW
Chain: Sram PC830 NEW
Wheels are 700c
Front Wheel: Formula hub, just overhauled, handbuilt to 32h Mavic Open Sport
Rear Wheel: Shimano 3500 to 32h Alex DC19, NEW
Tires: NEW Continental Ultra Sport 28c, Vittoria Randonneur 28c, new tubes

Hmm, optimistic pricing, though.
Details, details. For $1300, you'd think they'd make sure it had crank bolt dust caps on it.

I found this one interesting only because I can find no reference to the model here on Bikeforums, where even the most obscure thing shows up from time to time. LL Bean Eclipse, appears to be midgrade early 90's, Exage with bonded aluminum frame tubes.

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/bik/6143663685.html

I wasn't able to find anything on this bike online, but it looks like a late 80's/early 90's bike of pretty good quality. It's a 54cm medium frame so it should fit riders around 5'6 to 5'11. It rides great and has been fully serviced so it won't need any maintenance for a long time.

Here are the specs:
- L.L. Bean Eclipse "Fast Touring"
- aluminum frame, made in the USA
- 700c wheels
- Shimano Exage 300LX components (21 speed)
- Sakae anatomic drop bars
- Selle Royal saddle

Does anyone else remember LL Bean selling Specialized bicycles under their brand name in the early 90s? I was just recalling thumbing through their catalogs as a kid, and that detail emerged from the depths. Could be a possibility.

Nice well-done bike. Interesting, tho, it doesn't show close-ups of or mention what derailleurs are used.

A pre-boom bike in running condition is rare enough I guess. And the key in the locking fork isn't lost!

Antique 1952 Schwinn World Tourist Bicycle, Town Bike Style, with Locking Fork (key included)

Men's frame (medium size, great for men or women, perfect for 5'6" - 6') in rare purple color, lots of great looking patina, some rust, very cool looking bike! 3-speed Sturmey Archer hub, white grips, bow pedals, matching purple chain guard, Schwinn seat, Schwinn "script" brakes and levers. And that super cool looking Schwinn "wings" head badge. Dated 1952 based on serial number.

Very cool rare vintage bike. Amazing color. Rides good for it's age, brakes good, but don't expect to use it as a daily commuter. In other words it's 65 years old, it's heavy, it's more of a short distance weekend/pub crawl/farmers market show-off bike, not a daily commuter. You could make it into a daily commuter if you changed the wheels to something a little more modern and put a more comfortable seat on it. Would look amazing hanging on a wall too.

I have a matching one that's blue, I think it's a '53 ,but not running (needs chain, crankset and pedals), but if you pay my asking price of $275 for the purple one and I'll throw it in for free.

I think L.L. Bean sold rebranded Cannondales in their early years of selling bicycles, specifically the lower end of the ST series?

Short Puch Pacifica and tall Fuji S12-S, among others. My initials might be on the Pacifica's shop sticker; the final step in our shop's assembly procedure. Might be on the Fuji, too.

6 Vintage Project Road Bikes - $250 (Varina)

6 bikes all in need of being refurbished.
Puch Pacifica 52cm
S R Gran Tour 63cm
Fuji S12-S 63cm 12 speed
Schwinn (Varsity?) 56cm
Liberia 62cm
Black Unknown Brand 63cm

Also have some extra odds and ends I'll throw in if you want. Rims, seats etc.
$250 for all of them, or make an offer. Need them gone.

Anyone near Milwaukee? The 80s Trek 610 is back for $100 BIN on eBay, local pickup only. I see a 531 sticker ... quick scan I don't see dents or rust, but it definitely needs some TLC to be friggin awesome again.

Also, "time capsule" UE-18 here in Asheville NC for $100. Bone stock, balls still on the ivory levers, grips are still white stock pump, Mafac brake toolkit, and fenders which will net the ask price alone selling on eBay. Those are probably the stock tires, actually, I've seen my fair share of the yellow-dot 27" Michelins on early-mid 70s French bikes.

1977 Grand Campagnola 12 Speed - $750 (Phippsburg, Me)

condition: good
make / manufacturer: 1977 Grand Campagnola 12 Speed
model name / number: 1977 Grand Campagnola 12 Speed
This is stylish red 1977 Grand Campagnola 12 Speed that I purchased about 40 years ago brand new. On ebay this style and brand up bike is going for $1500-2500, however, I've haven't used it in years so it is in relativity good condition. All the bike need is some air in the tires and its ready to hit the road again! Contact me at (207-eight-three-seven-one-two-four-zero) ask for Kiefer!

I'm in Chicago, and have been sort of looking for a vintagey sort of bike. How nice are these?

Edit: oh nevermind...just noticed it's a 19"...don't think I'll squeeze onto that.

Yeah, it's small. I've got a 1980/81 ~60cm TX500 and a ~58cm 1984 660. Geometry of the TX500 probably more closely matches this 610 if memory serves. I'm still on the fence about how much I love the 660, feels too small for its size and haven't been able to get comfortable. Love the TX, though.

If you're hunting for something C&V that's very rideable, domestic, sturdy, light, but options, pre-90s Trek mid-range bujes are a no-brainer.
