Greg LeMond '91 Tour de France Team Z Bike - $750 (Palm Bay)

Greg LeMond '91 Tour de France Team Z Bike - $750 (Palm Bay)

Selling this vintage road bike which is the same model Team Z rode in the 1991 Tour de France. Contains Campagnolo group set and wheels and Cinelli handlebars. Great looking bike!

The frame size isn't labeled anywhere that I know of but that bottom bracket has a 61 stamped into it. I'm 6'3" and the bike fits me fine.

I've only put around 100 miles on it during some charity rides but it had a previous owner. Bike is still in like new condition.

Bike also includes an extra set of tires but no pedals.

^ Huh... I have the cap to match, and that bike is my size. Unfortunately, my wallet is empty and the stable is full...

I am so glad this is not my size! That 61 should mean it's a 61 cm as that's how my Billato built Greg Lemonds are. Are there other letter too? Ones that match the tubing it's built with? Mine have "C" for Cromor and "TX" for the TSX one.

Out of the ordinary ad here, no pictures, buyer wants to buy 531 frames and posts this. (For the record, I believe he/she sells 531s as well) So, if one just had a spec of rust on the frame, they aren't interested?

WTB - steel road frames with Columbus or Reynolds tubing - $100 (Burnsville)

WTB - steel road frames with Columbus or Reynolds tubing
Era: Pre-1985
Size: 52-58cm seat-tube
Condition: Not rusted, dented, cracked or bent (w/o fork, BB or headset - OK)
Before placing this post 'for sale vintage steel road frameset great for fixed gear conversion', please consider the following:
-Steel frames can sell for hundreds of dollars or more depending on the era, the maker, the model, the tubing, the condition and whether the original bottom bracket and/or headset is present.
-Steel frames rust - once the paint is scratched and/or chipped and the steel exposed to salt and water the steel starts to rust
-The value of a rusty frame = $0.00 since the cost of restoration exceeds it's value
-Once the rust penetrates the tubing the frame is compromised and becomes increasingly dangerous to ride

Before placing the above post please contact: show contact info

Boy, that's pretty!

I didn't know there were Gipiemme-branded derailleurs.

Is that a 4-speed freewheel? It looks so small to me!

Unknown tubing. Similar bike in attached link has Cromor tubing. Is it still desirable if that's the case with this bike?

Nailed it! Simplex branded their derailleurs with Peugeot, Gipiemme and Simplex badges, if not others.

The Team Z in the attached link was a Ventoux model, made of CroMor. Pictured/posted model above is a Maillot Jeune, which I believe was either SLX or TSX. All of them were very similar in build detail, pantos, etc, just different tubing and components. Also available as bare frames, I think only in SL or TSX. Regardless, great bikes!

How can you tell the difference between the Ventoux and the Maillot Jeune, appearance wise?

Stickers?

I've researched pre-Trek Lemonds deeply, and at this point I have to go with stickers, and embossing on the steerer tube and bottom bracket, which will indicate tubing. The '92 catalog seems to imply the Team Z colour scheme is only available on SL and TSX frames. So, who knows?

The geometry is the same across all model lines. They were almost all built by the Bilatto Brothers. They are all really solid bikes. and a pleasure to ride. To my mind, one can't really go wrong choosing any pre-Trek Lemond. (Full disclosure; I am biased. I rode my Le Vanquer (sp) yesterday.)

(Addendum: It should be noted Bilato Brothers bikes are measured c-c rather than c-t.)

The first frame phishing scam I have seen. Trying to scare people into parting with perfectly good frames for a song. Reminds me of the cash for klunkers where they ground up many muscle cars and usable parts vehicles.

Someone tried something similar here, so my friends and I marked the "prohibited" box multiple times every time they posted, and now, no more. I did the same with the MN ad, as technically it is prohibited, or at least posted in the wrong part of CL.

Sheldon Brown's Raleigh / Brian Baylis Fixed Gear Professional Bicycle (Cambridge or Lexington)

Truly a stunning looking bicycle. This was Sheldon Brown's Raleigh / Brian Baylis Professional Fixed Gear. If you have ever visited Sheldon Brown's expansive website you might have seen this bicycle that he blogged about.

Link to it on Sheldon Brown site: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/org/raleigh-baylis/

Bought as a frameset with a crack in the bottom bracket. Sheldon explains in the blog entry how he was looking to fix repair the crack but was advised by Brian Baylis that this would not be possible. Brian advised that the bottom bracket could be replaced. The replacement of the bottom bracket and repaint was performed by the late Brian Baylis back in 2002. Some braze ons were removed at that time and bottle cage mounts added. The paint is still on very good order with minimal chipping. I do see one minor blemish on the downtube a couple of inches above the Raleigh decal, looks like the brake but might have caused that. It was touched up and looks to be an exact match on the paint. It's minor but I try and mention everything. Also one pin head touch up on the top tube, which looks more pinkish. This bike remains exactly as when acquired from Sheldon's estate. It was one of several bikes. Bought from his estate after his passing by one of his friends, an ex coworker who held onto it until recently when they relocated and offered the bike to me.
Frame: 23 inches from centre of crank to top of seat tube (How Raleigh sized their frames)
Cranks: Shimano Dura Ace 165mm with a 42 tooth 3/32 chainring
Rear Cog: 16 tooth Phil Wood 3/32.
Bars: GB randoneur bars with engraved map of UK.
Stem: GB
Headset: Campagnolo
Saddle: Brooks Swift
Seatpost: SR Laprade
Rear wheel: Campy Record 28H hub to Sun M14A 28H rim
Front wheel: Campy Record 36H hub radially laced with 24 spokes to Sun M14A 24H rim by leaving out every third spoke on the hub.
Weight: Just under 19lb

If you go to the site you get to the in depth full story on Sheldon Brown's site and additional pictures. Click on the pics for a more in depth description of the parts.

Available in Lexington or Cambridge.

$1995 obo

Call or text me at 617-792-1970 to set a time to see the bike. Please refer to the Sheldon Raleigh. Thank you!
