This is highway robbery as a buyer, though it'd be a shame to see this parted out...

That's a $200-$225 bike IMO. Almost regardless of how nice, that era MTB typically sells cheap (unless really exotic, like a Chance). Bonded aluminum is also not exactly a hot commodity in the market. Give it a few months and make an offer.

Big Trek. Looks like a 7xx series with modern parts. A lot of bike for the $$ IMO.

I was going to post this in the "Wacky" thread. Wish I'd found it before it was revamped. Not interested in his mods at this price.

Do we have an "Abominations" thread?
I mean, it's an SL/SP touring frame. He's swapped in a single for the triple. No original custom made racks. That porteur up front when the fork has lowrider braze-ons. Quill stem gone... <sigh emoticon> I have one and seeing this breaks my heart. At least it's not a fixie conversion? <heavy sigh emoticon> There is not a single alteration or substitution made on that machine which befits the frames purpose, or from which I learn anything, or gain any inspiration. It is not interesting. It is not aesthetic. The Lotus Odyssey has been reduced to an "it." He should strip it down and sell the frame. It is an atrocity on two wheels...

Noted this last night and didn't feel it belonged in either "Looking for..." or "Wacky".

None of the parts on an 84' lotus odyssey are especially valuable or hard to find. It's really not that big of a deal.

Not the point. Even if I wanted that color Lotus frame in that size I would not want to spend what he's asking to get that bike. I'd rather find one closer to original for probably much less money.

So your issue is his asking price. Lots of optomistic pricing on CL, and often more crazy than this.

Long Week, Rant Revisited
No, the stock parts are not particularly precious on the '84 Odyssey, and the RD and brake levers are rather lacking. I've changed much on my Lotus, but have respected the intended purpose of the frame. It's a primo Italian tubeset brazed in Japan, designed by guys in upstate NY. That opens doors on three continents for appropriate accoutrement. And whoever outfitted this Lotus Odyssey managed to pretty much choose all the wrong bits. They probably should let their significant other dress them too? Of all the off the shelf touring bikes I've ridden, and I think I've ridden them all, (though certainly not owned them all), it's the one I like the most. It's loads of fun loaded or unloaded.
Whoever built this out or modded this up evidenced no respect for the underlying design of the frame. It's not a mortal sin like grinding off a derailleur hanger and cable guides, more a venal sin.
I vented, and insulted no one on the forums, hopefully. I'm not interested in engaging in a discussion as to whether my expression of opinion was justified.
