Titanium 57cm Road Bike, Campagnolo and Drillium Components - $700 (Newton)

craigslist - Map data OpenStreetMap
(google map)

condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Teledyne
model name / number: Titan
size / dimensions: 57cm
The bike has new brake hoods and cables as shown in some pictures but not in the older ones.

The bike is a Teledyne Titan. Teledyne is an aircraft manufacturer who has decades of experience building critical parts with titanium and magnesium. The aircraft engineers overbuilt this bike with reinforcements in critical stress points. Teledyne decided bikes were more of a distraction and only offering one model made it difficult to convince dealers. Bike dealers show a brand's high-end bikes to sell their entry and mid-level bikes.

This bike was a serious racer and is still very comfortibel to ride. It has the weight reduction technique of using parts that are drilled in non-stressed areas (drillium) popularized by Eddy Merckx that add at touch of bling. The components are all Campagnolo Nuovo Record with the exception of a gorgeous Sugino crank with drilled chain wheels. The stem and bars are extremely high quality from 3T (ttt) from Italy a less commonly seen competitor to Cinelli.

If you like vintage bikes but not the chipped paint and rust this is your perfect bike. Titanium doesn't corrode so there was no need to paint it. Titanium absorbs road shock while being stronger than steel. This frame was 40% lighter than the steel bikes of its day and sent several Americans to rare cycling medals in the Olympics. Today, the frame is still very light. The measurements are 57cm center of the crank to center of the top tube and the top tube is 56cm, center of the seat tube to center of the head tube. The bike will fit riders from 5'8" to 6' 2". The shorter top tube helps it to fit shorter riders and provide higher handlebar heights for comfort on long rides. A longer stem will accommodate taller riders. I am 5'10" and it is very comfortable. The wheelbase is short for agility and climbing.

I can meet you at the Riverside T station if you like and you can ride it home. The price is firm and please include a phone/text number in your response.

$250 SLX Italian ready to ride? Looks like a Billato made frame too.

It's folks like this that make it impossible to sell a bike around here for a good price, lol.

Richard Sachs

Super expensive but super sexy

An early Richard Sachs bicycle in light blue and I suspect the original paint. The frame is 54.5cm ctr to ctr for top tube and 54cm for seat tube. I am 5'10 and it works just fine for me. Bike sizing back in 1975 was to get the smallest frame that fit as it weighed less. It is a true 5 10 speed with a modified Campy Nuovo Record rear derailleur to accommodate a long arm to allow for the 11-28 freewheel and the Velo Orange compact (48/34) crank. I live in a hilly section of CT and need to range to get up these hills. The wheels are Mavic Red Label (700) on Campy Record small flange hubs. Brakes are Campy Record, bar is from Cinelli. I am pretty sure the bike is Reynolds 531 as RS was accustomed to working with these tubes from his days at Witcomb USA. If you are reading this ad, chances are you know about RS and his storied history in American cycling.

The bike rides really well is quite comfortable. If you really want an RS bike, the only place you will find one is on the used market as he is not taking new orders and working on his backlog orders. The Ideale saddle does not come with the bike but can be purchased if desired. Also have a few Brooks for sale. I am willing to meet potential buyers to show the bike.

I will be selling have a number of high end steel bikes - Landshark, Bob Jackson, Chas. Roberts, Bates, Nobilette, Bill Davidson, Serotta, Dawes, Holdsworth, Paramount and more. Contact me if interested.

He can probably get close to that on eBay...but on CL? I doubt that's going anywhere anytime soon. Beautiful though.

That's a 23" ladies' frame, a fairly unusual find. They did not make 'em bigger.

$30

Two vintage bicycles, male and female. They have been in the attic for 30 years. This is a good restoration project for someone. The male bicycle is Tour de France and the female is Gitane.

Too small for me, but have an eye out for a cheap one like that to make single speed and update some. Already has fenders. Nice.

The James Bicycle, unusual brand but fairly common construction and components. Apparently "some assembly required".

Quite the opposite. The good deals are on tall bikes as the demand for them is low. At 5'8" the world is your oyster! Allllllllllllllllllll the wonderful Italian bikes and everything else bikes you could dream of. There are a number of us taller guys here on BF. I am one of them (I ride 63-65cm / 25" frames), and it's always fun finding cool tall bikes as many were lower tier. Shorter humans raced (I mean, aerodynamic advantage, anyone???) and tall guys were left to....tour?

So, keeping with the tall theme: a burgundy 1984 or so Peugeot PGN10! 64cm, my size, of course, and naturally cheap ($100, wow) for this mostly original example in nice shape. Why does this keep happening? Oh wait, it's simply the opportunity. Hard pass on this as I don't want to buy the bike only for the frame this time. If it was just the frame, I might just have it!
