"But with a little work, it could be a fine touring bike." How many unfortunate people have fallen for this tired old line?

I don't like doing it to a bike but for me this screams wall art, very pleasing aesthetically and it would look great in my office.

Fillet brazed, phallic stem'd Ross Mt. Whitney, seller calls it a 1986. I call it hot. Pump peg behind the seat tube, an absolutely sweet looking seat cluster junction- so smooth and all in RED. Tange triple butted MTB tubes, suntour xc components with chainstay u brakes and suntour style cunningham design front brakes. This thing oozes 80s vintage mtb. $300. I am very sad with my 1988 Miyata Valley runner as I look at this bike. Anyone know who built these fillet-brazed bikes for Ross? I can't imagine they did all of their production in-house...did they?
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sf...352153312.html

*edit: Found some info, not a true fillet braze, but still nice looking. There's also a really cool story about mountain bike racing in 1983 down near the bottom of the link. https://forums.mtbr.com/vintage-retro...-a-534926.html

Looks like the seller has another Ross on sale, a full chromed Mt. Hood. Not as nice condition, but still a okay buy at $200 in my opinion.

Two enormous DX-2000s in New York

The second one is for a your pet giraffe, I think. Seriously, my friend is 6'6" and I've never seen him on a frame anywhere near that big.

That's pretty ridiculous...can't imagine how much that bike must flex under a tall, powerful cyclist. Also, with a bike that tall, doesn't the top tube need to be extra long too? Looks to me like the seat tube is considerably longer. I would love to see it set up with down tube shifters and the giant riding it have to reach down to shift gears...

Seems there are plenty of even taller frames in the "Tall Bike Thread," which I just looked at, but that 72 has got to be one of the tallest production frames ever made . . . maybe. I'm glad I don't need such a rare sized frame--but imagine how psyched you'd be if you found one used like that.

28" tall frame. You should have been working in shops in the early '80s. It was a craze among a certain segment of the populace to buy the largest frame available, get whitewall tires and shorty fenders, then slam the seat and have to push the bike around because they were guys who should have had much shorter frames and could not ride the ones they had bought. We sold dozens of Puch Pathfinders and Fuji Gran Tourers and Royales in 27", and the aforementioned Panasonics in 28". There was even one dealer in town who advertised a certain S-branded bike as "the TALLEST" because the little stub of seat tube extended about 1/4" higher than then brands we sold.

This same demographic later moved on to installing elaborate roof rack setups on their vehicles with no bicycle ever in evidence.

Incidentally, Panasonic only made the 28" in the DX-2000, but made 27" in a couple of the lower-line Sport models. The DX was a better bike with all alloy components and, I believe, better tubing in the frame.

Would those still be considered "drop bars" when you have to reach UP, to get to them?

Owner needs to get some butterfly-style "ape hanger" handlebars and be done with it.

Sheesh! That's already a tall bike, maybe a 62?
