Richard Sachs bike two above

I had thought that Sachs bikes were very desirable. I can't really see the components and this one looks like a Huffy. What am I missing???

It's an unconventional build...but that can be changed. Rally rear derailleur...not exactly what you'd find on a huffy. Looks like a chance to get a Sachs for short money.

I can't help you if you think the details of a Sachs look like a Huffy.

I was joking about the huffy comparison, simply meant that it didn't look any better than a lot of junk on CL. I admit I didn't look to far past the handlebars but I thought this was a very very high end frame company and was expecting more bling...

Italian Bikes and Parts - $75 (Bethel)

"I acquired a few Italian bicycles from Italy along with a few others. Parts are mostly Campangolo."

https://norfolk.craigslist.org/bik/d...397618800.html

(Included the second picture as I think the wheels in the background probably go to the Atala, the red bike frame.)

Wow. This is one of those bikes where you don't measure the value in the cost of the parts needed to restore it .

This one is all about sweat-equity. My first C&V bike project was a Raleigh DL-1; I learned a ton and it turned out pretty nice, but not as nice as this one looks. The value comes from riding this thing, which is unlike any other bike you have ridden, and knowing that you brought it back to life yourself. IMHO, of course...

It's a good buy, if you're into these things.

SF LeMond

LOL- it's killin' me because I just gave up on finding the 853 bike I wanted and picked up a CF LeMond, doing exactly what you described. Had the seller drop the bike at a local shop, the shop inspected and then boxed and shipped for a very reasonable cost. It's worked well for me - I just now have a plastic LeMond instead of another steel!
Not a bad bike, btw.

Like the paint on that one. In one of the pics you could see another bike and a 600 rear derailleur hiding in the background. Same guy has this with 600 STI for $380.

Even better is this Girodana super-xl with DA for $300 (just noticed, mix of DA and Ultegra)

Advertised as a Professional, but with double eyelet dropouts? Maybe a Super Tourist? Other ideas?

1974 RALEIGH PROFESSIONAL 55cm - $200 (EVANSTON)

https://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/b...390474142.html

Vintage Raleigh Professional frame and fork. 55cm or 21.5". This is the top of Raleigh's line of racing frames from the early '70's. Full Reynolds 531 frame and fork. This is either a 1973 or 1974 as it has both the fastback seat cluster and sloping cinelli style fork as well as the Carlton Cycles "cc" cutout underneath the bottom bracket. All very nice features from this era and unique to the Professional model. Has Knicks and scratches here and there and one of the rear dropout screws is broken, but probably 5 bucks to fix, but no dents and frame is straight. It is a repaint and there is chrome underneath on the front and rear dropouts. Campagnolo dropouts but hard to read from age. This frame looks good as is because the mink blue looks original, but would also make a good project bike to powdercoat and expose the chrome again. $200 cash on pickup in Evanston. Price is firm because these sell for twice that on eBay when they do pop up. Thanks

Della Santa 57 cm A real beauty. imho

Campy 11 speed Super Record

My DS is too close build wise or I would sell a couple of bikes and buy this one.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Della-Santa...UAAOSwiBJaGEav

Della Santa Corsa, 57 cm. Campy 11 speed super record group. Bike has less than 2000 miles on it. Highlights include
DT Swiss wheelset with tufo tires
Fizik curve bull saddle with record titanium seatpost
Deda bars and cinelli stem
Look keo titanium and carbon pedals

The geometry of the bike is the same as the Derosa Neo Primato 57 cm.

My Best Score Ever

Post photos when you get it home.
We rendezvoused at a Taco Bell in Saint Cloud, so only about half the distance to Little Falls - a little over an hour's drive. I put the bike up on my trunk rack, turned the pedals, shifted through the gears, and said, "You've got a deal."

Money ($25!) changed hands, and she was mine. It rained on the drive home, but the saddle that was on there was pretty water resistant, so I didn't bother to put the Brooks rain cover on it. It wasn't the original anyway, and it wouldn't be there for long.

Condition-wise, it was better than I had any right to expect. Here are some details:

...and by sunrise this morning, she looked like this:

The top-tube "Specialized" decal was gurred up, probably from a workstand clamp, so I removed it with a heat gun, tweezers, and Goo Gone. I think it looks better this way. I might even be able to live with that.

I'll be posting our first ride later today on "Where Did You Ride Today?"

And you didn't need a mask or gun. COOL! It looks very good, especially considering the price.
The Shark fin thingy was just a gimmick to deflect the chain from the chain stay.

Great story, great deal, fast transformation into something ridable. Hopefully no one questions your masculinity over the paint job (or the biopace chain rings).

I love those old indexed thumbshifters, I have seen them go for $75 just by themselves on Ebay. That damned bike looks almost brand new, very few miles. Amazing for its age. Did you ever nail down the exact year it was made?

Seems to me the "sharksfin" might be for chain deflection to keep it out of the brake, maybe.
