There was one like this being ridden around town during the Worlds a couple of years ago. I watched the guy lock it up twice and walked away from it. Crazy!

All these bikes lately are just too far for me. And yeah, the north Bay seems to have a lot lately.

I typically see these selling for four-figures, between $1,200 and $1,500. Why is this one "half price"?

Sucks to be broke...

It's priced a little high for this market, but it does appear to be intact.

Something to check out -- if anyone is seriously looking at purchasing this bike -- is whether it has a Grease Guard bottom bracket. There's a lot of threads about them on BikeForums and elsewhere online, and they seem like kind of a pain to replace.

Which is easily addressed by not replacing them. They really aren't that big of a deal...certainly not enough to pass on what were, IMO, the best production bikes of their era.

I used to have an instruction booklet on how to service them, but I can't find the darn thing. Will try and dig up later...

$1,200-$1,500 is primo condition, eBay territory. Even for a pricey area like Portland, I wouldn't expect to get more than 60-70% of peak eBay prices on Craigslist. I'm sure it will sell at $600, but it may take a while. $200-$300 is what it would take to make a quick sale of it. There was a nice red 1972 Schwinn Paramount for sale here in San Diego for $800, down from $950 for at least the last 3, maybe 4 years on CL. (My buddy finally broke down and bought it for about $700. Thank goodness, one less temptation.)

I saw that paramount

I live in SD as well. I was watching that paramount for years. It was too big for me. I think it was a 61/63. Also did not come with much campy. cant believe it sold for 700.

I had a raleigh professional frame, that I sanded down to metal. It was from 71? with the fastback seat tube. (someone rattle canned over a Raleigh Pro and I had to save it.) Anyway, I could not sell the frame on CL for 200$ I finally sold it for 150.) I paid 50 for it, but I thought it would get more love than it did. I have a very nice raleigh competition with shimano 600 group that is sitting at 200$ It is a 73.

The market for the older raleighs seems like it is weakening. It is a shame, because they roll extremely well.

Ah so you're the one with that white n' blue Raleigh for sale! I've been surprised to see it hang out on craigslist for so long. I wish I had an excuse to help you get rid of it, but I really don't need another bike, unfortunately. Hopefully interest will pick up.

I love that white / lagoon blue color scheme from the Gran Sports of that era. I've never seen it on a Competition before. If you could manage to sqeeze another 2-3 cm into that seat tube, I'd be all over it. :-)
