Reply to: sale-3dfve-1707696384@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Amazing vintage early 80's Dawes (Made in England) Men's steel road bike, 23 inch/58cm lugged butted light steel frame, excellent condition with fine components:

---Campagnolo derailleurs (980 front is new; Valentino Extra rear is excellent)
---Campagnolo SR Alloy Shifters (friction downtube) with new cables
---Sugino GP 3 piece alloy cranks, 2 chainrings
---Shimano hub 7 speed cassette, tight racing ratios (14 speed)
---700c alloy QR wheels, Shimano QR skewers
---New Forte GT2 700c tires
---Lyotard alloy quill racing pedals
---SR alloy stem, Pivo alloy randonneur style bars like new with new black cork tape
---Excellent medium grey paint
---Weinmann Model 730 Side Pull Brakes with new cables and new levers

This is an amazing lightweight vintage road bike in pristine condition--pictures really don't do it justice. Looks and rides like a new bike. Components alone are worth the price!! $250 firm.

I saw this today as I am in the market for a new (to me or new new) bike. The main issue I had with it was the campys, which are low end for the era and supposedly a headache to maintain. However, Throw on some modern derailleurs and some bar-cons and that would make a sweet bike! Too bad I need something with brazes on for rack and fenders. Did you see this, https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/bik/1708161446.html ?

Bridgestone MB-2 Commuter/Touring/City/MB - $180 (Newburyport)

Date: 2010-04-24, 3:53PM EDT
Reply to: sale-4bazc-1708344838@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

•Tough as nails. Embarrassingly good shape.
•Set up as a commuter, touring or city bike
•19” Lugged, steel frame, made in Japan (not China)
•Probably a good size for someone in the 5'6" - 5'10" range
•Designed by legendary bike designer, Grant Peterson. He has since gone on to found Rivendell Bikes. Most Rivendell bikes sell for $2,500+, and are based on this similar geometry and materials,
•18 speeds
•Grommets for racks
•Schwalbe Marathon tires ($75) “with KevlarGuard and Allround tread compound it can fulfill everything that is expected of a Marathon tire: Effective puncture protection, durability and excellent handling characteristics”. Reflective side walls.
•Planet Bike fenders
•Only $180. (Look around…other Bridgestones, as well kept as this, are $300+)
•Bike can be seen at a yard sale on Jackson Street, in Newburyport, Sunday April 25, between 8am and noon.

Careful with that Dawes... I spoke to the guy and there may be damage to the head tube. Might be a crashed bike. The seller is not trying to pass it off, he was very forthcoming.

I inherited a bike and I think the frame is in good shape but not sure about all the rest of the parts. Rims look solid and it has Shimano 600 components on it. You can call me at 612-250-9883. Looking for $50 or best offer. My friend told me this bike was VERY expensive when she got it years ago.

This Kabuki 12 speed is a top notch vintage touring/racing bicycle. These were top of the line in their time, and still have several innovations that other manufacturers took years to add to their own cycles. This bike is in great shape, and is ready to ride. Feel free to call me with any questions you might have.
Ask for John.

It's a Kabuki, AKA a horrible mistake. In no way would I ever refer to any Kabuki as top of any line. I don't know what "innovations" this guy is referring to, perhaps electro-forging aluminum lugs around heavy steel tubes (Getting the worst of both worlds) is going to catch on? Not painting stainless steel tubing to celebrate they paid a bit extra for tubes???

A couple have passed through my hands, I hate them.

Just a note, don't ever take a friend garagesaling when you are driving. They tend to bail before you stop. He ended up with a Nishiki olympic and a Miyata cross bike. I got a Centurion Elite RS with 600 components but a damaged (ran-over) front fork. At least he gave me an I****awa replacement fork.
