The Diamondback Ascent is a decent mid-level bike, but I wasn't sure if these chromed (early 70's?) Carlton Cobras are desirable. Looks like that surface rust would polish off.

What was the original gear ensemble configuration on this Cobra?
It clearly has a two plateau chainset and the bottom bracket cable guide has a housing stop for a front mech which is not present. The single Simplex Prestige stem shifter is of a model which did not launch until 1970 so it is newer than the cycle. The downtube housing stop is single so it cannot be original. There is a no-slide pib on the downtube for the mounting of the original controls, whatever they were.
