If it was closer I would be interested in this '81ish Bianchi. Looks like Universal 77 brakes? Might be an Alloro model. $375 in New haven Ct, week old ad. https://newhaven.craigslist.org/bik/...582264979.html

This early '80s 54ish Bianchi near St Louis has been posted for 17 days so maybe there is some wiggle room in the %450 asking price https://stlouis.craigslist.org/bik/d...572625333.html

Somewhere in Orange County, Calif, this '87 Limited in Metallic Celeste has been listed for 18 days so maybe you can haggle on the $450 asking price. https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/...570871442.html

Nice looking Specialized Sequoia, but double check the fork. Looks a bit "off" to me. (Course, it might be the phone-sized images or the brick grid in the background.)

This Atala is nice, I'm sure... but "includes bottle holder" ... that's a pretty rare Campagnolo 900ml aero bottle and holder... the combo is hard to come across and asking prices on the 'bay are close to the cost of this bike.

buy it for the water bottle?

I saw it, but it's my size, so I hesitated sharing the link haha. I wonder what that black area on the top tube is. Touch-ups? Of course I wouldn't expect a $250 Serotta to be pristine.

If I were to buy anything right now it'd be that Panasonic DX-5000 I posted earlier. The only thing stopping me is that it's over in St. Cloud (plus the fact I can't justify another bike).

"Davis Phinney" on the top tube near the front? Is that a thing, or is it more significant?

Yep, a DP. Back in 1987, the Phinney models were somewhat different than standard off the rack Serotta frames, built to Phinney's design preference. He liked a longer top tube and Ben designed a set of unusual asymmetrical curved chainstays that were supposed to better transfer Phinney's phenomenal sprinting strength (note that Phinney was the first American to win a stage of the TdF).

Later DP's like the one above were more conventional designs; all of the ones I've seen from the later period had straight chainstays.

Regardless, it's a Serotta, so a nice riding bike, although broken shift lever, somewhat worn chainrings and mismatched wheel set indicate what you're buying is mostly the frameset. Still a deal.
