$800 pricey? How about a complete 58cm bike for $2500?

https://memphis.craigslist.org/bik/1710975254.html

Actually, it's a Waterford built Paramount 50th Anniversary Team Wheaties bike with an interesting history and provenance.

Too small and too expensive for me - I like to ride my bicycles not collect for display.

my guess is that as much as anything else, these Schwinns were the affordable/tangible road bikes of (a lot of) our youth while we were getting ready to graduate from Sting-Rays...so, they hold a soft spot for that reason. So, to me, they're have more symbolic value than anything else...so it's hard to turn down the ones that have been $20 and under. Plus, i just dig the handlebars on the '70s Contis....I'm running a set on a 2000 Peloton & they're excellent.

Legnano, in Chicago suburbs, $225/BO. I have exchanged emails with the seller, including some more detailed photos which reveal campagnolo dropouts with adjusters, but steel cottered cranks. Apparently no Columbus decal so perhaps gaspipe? Seller was quick to respond, seems very flexible on price.

Vintage Bianchi Road Bike**Commuting++Long Distance**Reliable - $400 (Somerville/Union Squoare)

Date: 2010-05-09, 7:13PM EDT
Reply to: sale-sngzk-1732573547@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

A fine columbus steel lugged road bike made by Bianchi. It has had a complete professional overhaul. Nice add ons from original set-up: Suntour bar-end friction shifters; new double-walled 700c wheels (only about 3 years old); Continental Ultra Gatorskin Tires; Blackburn Rack that holds up to 40 pounds; rear Planet Bike fender (I've got the front one too for ya!); recently replaced and updated headset and sealed bottom bracket.

Bike has paint wear to its red paint. Suntour derailleur and shifters. Size is about 21 inches (I'm 5ft4in and it fits me good. You could be a bit taller or shorter and will be fine.) It does not come with the Time pedals, but will have pedals.

This bike came to me as a professional bike mechanic. It rides like new. I've ridden it to commute, hauling groceries, art supplies, clothes, you name it. I've also taken some very nice, long rides (30-50 miles) with it. It is realiable and beautiful (did you see the lugs!!!). A fine road bike that has been given love.

VINTAGE VELO SCHAUFF RACING BIKE W/ CAMPY KIT - $450 (Lowell )

Reply to: sale-u5ect-1732290330@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Extremely nice Men's Vintage Velo Schauff Racing bike. . I have owned this bike since the mid 1980's . Ridden very little then put away. Blue frame . White handlebars. Mavic Rims. Seat is marked Concor S. Marco Supercors . About as nice as you will ever find. Some updated info in this bike. Someone said it's a 60cm . Handlebars are marked Sakae Custom Japan. Brakes marked Campagnola G.S. Pedals and levers marked the same. Leather foot strap marked Alfredo Binda . Chrome toe hold / guard is marked Christophe Special. The sticker below the seat reads Tubi Speciali Tretubi Columbus. Tires are Wolber Liberty 270 / 22 . Pump is SKS Alustar.

The chrome on the bike is very nice as is the paint. You would be very hard pressed to find one this nice.

1971 Raleigh Competition - $600 (Hopkinton, MA)

Date: 2010-05-09, 8:48AM EDT
Reply to: sale-aqjwq-1731837656@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

I have reduced the asking price on this bike in hopes of getting it into the hands of a enthusiast who will appreciate its quality and rarity. Feel free to make a reasonable offer. As most Raleigh enthusiasts are aware, the early 1970's Competitions were generally painted black, and wore high end Huret (Jubilee) components. This bike is quite different, although the end result is the same, a quality but affordable racer. Thanks to a helpful CL person, I understand that the serial number places the frame in the 1971 time frame, its a 23" Reynolds 531 fully butted frame, made in the Carlton shop (clearly marked with proper downtube decal and Wienmann white rubber brake hoods), white and turquoise blue paint scheme very much like the early Gran Sport model. I had an early Gran Sport, and this bike is not set up the same way. The Gran Sport was a "club" racer, and had frame geonetry set up for a more relaxed riding experience, with an extended wheel base and a wide range gearing. This bike is set up with a steeper front fork and tighter wheelbase, more for racing. Gearing on this bike includes chainrings at 52/45 and Atom free wheel at 15/16/17/18/19, pretty tight gearing for this vintage. The crank and chain rings are Zeus, the Gran Sport was typically set up with a Nervex (sp?) 52/42 if I remember correctly. The wheels on this bike are set up with Normandy blue label high flanges with Atom QR levers. I am not sure what the sew up chromed rims area, but they have remnants of 2 decals, one baby blue and the other white, and both appear to have been oval shaped, and one looks like it references made in italy. The Gran Sports had 27 inch rims with Hutchinson clinchers if memory serves. The drop outs on the frame are Zeus, with a braze on hanger for the RD, and threaded fender brackets. The Wienmann brakes are CP short reach and the levers have the mechanism that allows for extra slack in the cables when removing the wheels, that was an upgrade at the time. The pedals are Atom 700 and the changers are Simplex Prestige. The saddle is a Brooks B15. I have an extra wheel set with Campy Record hubs, there are new Conti sew ups on the original wheels, extra parts including a vintage Shimano Crane GS RD, large range freewheel and brand new still in package chain, really nice stuff, Todd (508) 435-3679.

1984 trek 520 touring bicycle - reynolds 501 lugged steel frame and fork, no dents, paint in okay shape considering age. Drivetrain is in great shape, Suntour cyclone m II derails and shifters, r36 hole touring wheelset with Araya rims, diacomp cantilever brakes and levers, nitto stem. Also, comes with fenders and a rear rack. Recently upgraded to the trek 720 touring bike of the same year - so this one needs to go. I'm 5'-10" tall and this frame fit me perfectly.

Peugeot PGN-10 Road Bike - $400 (Newton)

Date: 2010-05-08, 3:52PM EDT
Reply to: sale-fyd5z-1731132466@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Classic Peugeot PGN-10 road bike circa 1985.

Stored indoors since purchased new from Bicycle Exchange in Harvard Square.

Reynolds 501 lugged frame and chromed 501 fork. Frame is 22-inches from center of bottom bracket to center of top tube.

Campagnolo Record brakeset and hubs.

Campagnolo Nuovo Record bottom-pull front derailleur.

Mavic MA40 wheel rims, Continental tires.

Vetta leather saddle.

Shimano 105 shifters and rear derailleur.

Paint is an 8.5 out of 10 with a few small rust spots on the top tube. Interiors of frame tubes, rear triangle tubes, and fork have been spray lubricated periodically to ensure integrity of metal.

I will include a pair of Campagnolo Record platform pedals with toeclips and straps (clip less pedals shown in photos are NOT included)

This bike is a classic and deserves to be ridden and enjoyed.

Note: The Campy parts on this bicycle are worth more than the asking price for the whole bicycle, so, please, no lowballers, bottom feeders, etc.

Also, local pickup only, cash only, no trades, no scammers, etc.

Torelli Gran Sasso Italian road bike Full Campy! - $850 (Medford)

Date: 2010-05-09, 8:20PM EDT
Reply to: sale-ctqnd-1732652062@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

For sale is a Torelli Gran Sasso steel road bike w/full Campagnolo, $850 or best offer. This bike is a sick ride either for commuting or riding long distances. Nothing beats the look and feel of Italian steel. Torelli still makes their bikes the old fashion way by hand. All the decals and paint are in great condition (a couple of chips), the wheels are straight and everything shifts like new.

You cannot find a better bike for the money!

Here's a breakdown of everything on it:
Torelli Gran Sasso (w/world champion rainbow colors)
56cm seat tube/top tube
Frame is in very good condition with just a couple of chips in the paint (filled in with touch up paint)
Columbus Thron tubing (decal still intact)
Pump lump/fender eyelets
Campy cables and housing
Mirage 9 speed shifters (triple chainring)
Mirage front and rear deraillueres
Campy 9 speed chain
Campy Veloce triple crankset
Campy Veloce front and rear brakes w/Campy brake pads
ITM 1" threadless stem
ITM Bars
Campy Montreal 76 wheelset with Veloce front hub, Chorus rear hub
Thompson Seatpost
Terry Titanium saddle
Continental Gran Prix 300 tires

Weird, I'm almost 99% sure that's the bike I test rode in Portland last year, and almost bought for $900. I thought that was too much. EDIT: Nevermind, that bike was 60cm, full Dura-Ace.

The gall to list a bike at that price WITH REFLECTORS ON IT just blows my mind.

Clunky old Schwinns C&V??

I'm relatively new here, but I say if old Raleighs with cottered cranks and steel rims from 1950s make the cut then surely there is a place for the honest valued Schwinns of my youth.

After all, wouldn't model T cars be considered both classic and vintage? Schwinns were actually a significant step up from the quality of a model T.

This bike will impress your fellow riders! This was a limited edition from Cannondale back in the late 80's. This bike has been ridden very little--probably less than 500 miles. It's really a beauty and in excellent condition! 63 cm C-T. I'm 6' with a 34" inseam and it fits me great. Handcrafted aluminum frame. Wobler T 430 Alpine wheels. Continental 700x25 tires. Suntour, Sugino AP, Dai-compe. 18-speed. This bike is very light and fast. New Serfas seat. This is your chance to own a classic and it is a great looking bike! Cash only, please. Call 612-201-1039 to see. You won't be disappointed. https://image1.kilozoom.com/287/zm/de...=/DSC02022.JPG

I'm not sure what all is here, but for the right person, there may be a treasure or two. I don't know enough to know what I don't know....so I'll pass.

Smokin' deal

And I'd buy it, too, if I could afford it.

RaleighUSA Technium mountain bike. Has 26" wheels, 18" frame, 30" standover, and 21 speeds with Shimano DeoreLX components. No issues except the back tire has a small fray in it (may be able to see it in the first pic). Tire still works properly and holds air. Asking $100 cash. Call (919)819-6699.

That's a Raleigh Grand Prix, circa 1974.
