Pretty sickening IMHO how these jerks ply their trade. I'd like to pay them a visit and bust some kneecaps.
Naw, you want to hit them a little higher then the kneecap

i have one of these. just a frame, in a 63cm. It's heavy. Don't confuse it with an actual team bike. These are heavy 555sl tubed entry level bikes. I mean it's a decent frame, but I paid $30 for mine and I wouldnt pay much more.

Raleigh Team USA frameset for sale. Headset, Seatpost, fork all included. 56 cm top tube, 58 cm seat tube.

Unique and beautiful red, white and blue (with stars!) paint job. Rare frameset.

Made out of raleigh 555sl tubing, fully lugged frame construction. Horizontal dropouts for a fixed gear conversion, or build it up with gears.
Frame condition 7 or 8/10. Some chips and scratches in the paint. One of the top tube housing guides is missing- to get around this you can zip tie the housing to the top tube or you can get a stick on housing guide.

If you are reading this then the item is still available.

That's an absolutely amazing opportunity... but... it kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I wonder how many of those are stolen. There's too many nice bikes and parts there.

It does seem nice. I am a sucker for black components as well.

As for the 500 bikes, it's obviously a sketchy post. I wonder if the 'seller' even has those bikes? One type of scam or another. Seems like it would be really hard to unload 500 supposedly nice bikes without drawing the wrong kind of attention.

They may not be, but how else would several hundred classic/collectible/pretty-valuable bikes end up in a couple shipping containers in a seaport town? They're either (a) stolen, (b) the collection on some strange hoarder who likes to put his bikes in shipping containers and then offload them at discounts on Craigslist.

I would have to assume they're stolen.

The last time I was there, I didn't see any beaches in Fresno.

Playing Devil's Advocate:

I have no idea who collected these or how these bikes were collected, but lots of people hoard stuff. And outside of the blue Cinelli, I saw a lot of rusty, scraped up bikes in disrepair as well as just bare frames, nothing particularly noteworthy or highly collectible. Did I miss something?

Also, shipping containers are frequently used for storage. anyone can buy one and have it plunked down in their yard, schoolyard, church grounds, ball field, etc. There is nothing unusual at all in storing stuff n containers - very, very common.

As for selling them for discount - maybe someone ought to call the number in the ad and ask about the Cinelli - see what he wants for it. I'll bet they're not so "discounted". I would but I don't care enough and I've already got one, anyway.

Here's a link to his album - Centurions, Schwinns, and the like. Big deal.
http://s920.photobucket.com/albums/ad43/joe2227/

Maybe he buys them in bulk at public/police auction? Who knows. Labeling him as a thief without any evidence is a bit of a reach, though. Maybe all the forks are bent, too.

1989 Miyata. Nice shape, ready to ride.

I believe it is all original except for the saddle (upgraded to a more modern Fuji racing seat) and wheelset which is a cool set of gold anodized Arayas.

Please include a phone number in your email and let me know what bike you are interested in as I have a few for sale.

Vintage Trek 300 Elance Road Bike - $120 (Fenway)

Date: 2010-05-18, 1:32PM EDT
Reply to: sale-ah9ba-1747219306@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Frame is about 52 cm. I'm 5'9" and it is a little bit too small for me.

Frame has scuffs, scrapes and some surface rust but is straight with no dents. Will need a rear brake cable and front tube (and tire before too long). These old Trek's are great bikes and pretty desirable but since this one is beat up and needs a little work I'm letting it go cheap and my price is firm. Please leave a phone number in your email and let me know what bike you are interested in as I have a few for sale.

(the front tube has been holding air for a few hours so if you want to test ride the bike I can pump it up for you.)

Large Lotus Brand 10 Speed bicycle - $75 (Elburn,(by St. Charles, Batavia, Geneva))

I have a very large, 26 inch frame, Lotus brand bicycle. I researched this bike and it was very expensive back in the 80's when it was new. This bike is designed for men over 6 foot tall. It operates fine, but has minor surface rust on some of the chrome. If this bothers you, I have had success on another bike of mine by using fine steel wool and WD40 to remove surface rust from chrome.

It will need new handlebar tape or foam. Tires hold air, but are old too.

im lowering the price of the bike every week after the last posting has slid down past all the others. Now it's back on top for a minute ready to go for another week. (at a lower price, unlike the other posters who post daily more than once for the same exact price). Can you believe it? same bike every day same price everyday. If it didn't sell everyday for the past two weeks at the same price, you might want to go lower to motivate any potential buyers.
Beautiful, full functioning 1972 Peugeot Du Monde. Ten Speed, all original and Orange. I'd give the overall condition of this bike a 9 out of ten.
This bike is for (6' 0") or taller people. Give me a call if anything, Thanks (323) 803-0467. Manny.

MIYATA TEAM BIKE, DURA ACE, SHIMANO 600 - $500 (DENVER)

1981 Miyata Team

This bike was Miyata's "spare no expense" top of the line team bike. It is a replica of the team bikes of the European and domestic peleton. A top of the line bike as opposed to an entry level bike means that the tubing is both lighter and stiffer, the production tolerances are much tighter and the grouppo is the highest quality.

Original Miyata catalog is here... http://www.miyatacatalogs.com/2007/1...alog-1981.html

Miyata made arguably the best production frames available during the bike boom of the 80's. They were a turn of the century rifle manufacturer that began making bicycles and eventually made the first Japanese bicycles that were pro tour quality in the seventies. At this point Miyata was still making their own custom lugs and , of course, drawing their own tubing.

56cm squared

Full Dura-Ace drivetrain

Shimano 600 brake levers with puch stem and bars

front wheel is a 600 hub laced to matrix aurora while the rear is original suntour suberbe pro hub laced to mavic open 4 cd

new cables, housing, tape and tires.

more photos here....http://www.flickr.com/photos/4708712...7623707543644/

*** bonus sales pitch/rant*** Why buy an entry level steel bike for 200-250 that originally sold for 400 when you could have a top of the line steel beauty for 500 that originally sold for 1800-2300? Also why buy a new cheapo 4130 mass produced bike (*cough* surly, soma, swobo etc) when you could have a custom lugged and drawn steel ride with actual pedigree not just decals? ***

When forced to defend what is (admittedly) an assumption based on my gut instinct (and that of at least one other C&V'er), I find it generally serves me best to reject logic and a well-reasoned response and use the art of misdirection (some people get really far using this technique).

So in light of your well written response, here is a pic of that crazy Carlton resto with the sparkly fenders, which is up for sale at eBay...again:

[warning - opinion] And it might just be a fakie - jury's out on this one [/opinion]
