Interesting, with the drop outs I was going with the catalog description but I know that is often off when it comes to boom era bikes.
My TdF (or at least I think it's a TdF ) has a TdF sticker on the fork and the checkered flag with the SC designation on the top tube like the subject bike (and simplex drop outs)

Later on, I brought to the party a bare frame which possibly had a rear brake bridge at one time. As bare-frame, with Campy dropouts, nobody here or in two other places I was posting at (then) could definitively say if it was a TdF or SC, and no less than one mentioned there's absolutely no difference in frame weight, geometry, styling, nothing other than the top tube decal and what parts it was assembled with.
But, who knows, we may have some new piece of info turn up tomorrow giving something more definitive. A marking inside the BB shell, fork steerer or head tube or something. I dunno

Interesting looking Dawes. Don't know a lot about them, chrom-moly, real head badge, nice lugs, cottered crank, center pulls, perhaps late 60's? or very early 70's. Chrome stay ends, nice top of seat stays. Great color.

Forgot to mention the brooks saddle, cool water bottle cage, and some type of magistroni knock-off crank(i think). Lol. Looks like a good bike for around $200.

That's not a Brooks, it's a low-grade Vinyl knockoff. Dawes used to build some wonderful bikes; 531 frames, nice lugs, all hand-built. I don't know who owns them now or where they are manufactured, but they are still in business.

Thanks for clarifying the seat, looked suspicious. Galaxy model came out in 1971. My research suggests the early Galaxy used Reynolds 501 straight guage main frame, with hi-ten stays. 501 prolly better for tourer loads anyway? I found a 1982 Galaxy that does list 531 tubes. Company was family owned thru the 1970's, then changed hands a few times. Currently owned by a company named Tandem plc.

I originally bought it to flip, then procrastinated and didn't. After my crash (and subsequent titanium upgrade to my right femur) it came in handy during rehab. I stuck it on my CycleOps in the basement and used it to get range of motion back between physical therapy sessions. Now it's just kind of one of the gang. It doesn't see a ton of use, but I get it out a couple times a month, perhaps.

"Steampunk"...you guys are killing me! Awesome Dawes, Smontanaro! Definitely a quality bike that has the "it" factor, despite mid-range components. You can see they were trying to bring high-end bike attributes to the masses. Versus the usual, peddling junk for profit! Two different philosophies there! Sorry to hear about your accident, keep cranking on that Dawes and get back to 100%!
