I understand not being ready to buy an old bike for $650.
I thought long and hard about this one. The thing is, after reading through all these forums, I can't date the thing. Various features don't add up. More important, I don't think that seat tube water bottle mount should be there, which, I believe, would mean some drilling occurred.
It's a lot of money for a 40 year old bike, if you're not sure that's what you want.
There is an old saying about leading a horse to water.
"After reading through all these forums" perhaps you missed one thing about Colnagos... No one can date them...

I didn't look closely at it, but it's probably a little later than 1976. I'm not sure what features you're referring to that give you pause. A "fake" it is not, though there certainly might be something wrong with it, that is not immediately apparent in the photos.
Some drilling occurred"? It might have, and frequently did, waterbottle mounts being one of the most common reasons. Though BITD, many bikes often came with customer requested add ons...
If the bike fits you, and there's no crash damage or serious rust... and you really do want to buy a classic C&V bike, I was just wondering, (presuming that there are no hidden issues, of course),
What Colnago would you like to buy for $650? - OR - How much should that Colnago cost? Question open to all...
Cheers, Eric

I already went through them...I decided every bike I have now should be treated like a grail find! The girls agreed...and said I should spend more time with THEM.

^ That Bianchi outside Harrisburg has some nice stuff on it, like a ver4 Victory rear derailleur and synchro shifters. But if you're gonna look at it, make sure its cranks have the proper extraction caps. Blury pic of those, but could be trouble.

Re: I understand not being ready to buy an old bike for $650.
Thanks for provoking my thoughts.
I thought based on Craiglist and ebay, and the fact that I could likely get the price down, less than $650 was pretty darn cheap for what it was. But what do I know. The other big factor was that I have an '83 Guerciotti with a new groupset. Rather than be conflicted about whether I should try to put appropriate parts on this bike, I thought that I could get one that only needs an older wheelset and not have to worry about what to do with my current ride. One true to vintage bike; one true to today bike.
What would I like to have for $650? If it were a Colnago, I might honestly want a newer, flashier one. There are other old Italian C&Vs that I'd probably prefer if I could get them for $650. Maybe I've resolved the questions in my head...

I was on CL yesterday morning and probably exited moments before this ad was posted. I got on BF about three hours later and saw your post and attempted to reach the seller. Knew at that price it was probably already too late and we'll probably see a flipper's ad soon but the bike is my size and I thought I'd give it a try even though the geometry suggests it's no better for my needs than the RB-T I recently sold.
No response from the seller, by the way.
