I'm not the expert, but the earlier Huffy sportsman's use a SA AW 3 speed hub, and later switched to Shimano 333 hubs. I believe I was surprised at a 'made in england' decal on an older sportsman too. Montgomery Ward sold the Hawthorne Hercules 3 speed labeled as "Made in England" in the 60's too. You're probably right that this was made in Nottingham.

I remember thinking that's a dumb name because I never saw a Columbia Sportsman I or II.
Parents weren't of any help either.
Makes me wonder now if that bike was made by Huffy for Columbia, or that Columbia was somehow cashing in on the Sportsman name.
