I know vintage rigid MTBs are easier sells than old suspension forks, but this seems like an excellent value regardless.

'72 thru '75 were full Reynolds, not sure about the non-Nervex years after '75.

This should have gone in the wacky thread but is the real deal so.....

It went up $1K in the last 2 hours before it ended.

Seller was deceptive on the paint that was pretty crappy.

Just shows what these can go for.

Wow. 1) I should have held onto my all original SBDU. 2) I may have a restored SBDU 56cm frame up for sale soon.

Yes you should have, that one is a 61 so probably as close as I'm likely to get, it would have been small at that, 56 is a no go for me.

That one was in the UK so that may have had something to do with it, they take them more seriously than elsewhere I think.

I would make sure it comes up over there if you can.

There was a big uproar awhile back when Raleigh released the tribute bike a couple of months ago, the purists reamed on it pretty hard while I thought it was ok but was of course overpriced as they always are.

Full 531? Not from what I've seen. My '75 (guessing) feels heavy in the rear. What I said above about '76 and '77 is based on Bulgier's catalogs.

The '74 and '75 Motobecane catalogs list the frame and fork as Reynolds 531 with Campy ends. That's verified by the original double butted tubing decals on my unaltered '74 and '75 bikes. My '72 Grand Record no longer has the Reynolds decal on it but appears to be identical to the '74 and '75. When Motobecane changed their frame to non-Nervex lugged construction (in either '76 or '77, I can't remember) they may have also changed the tubing material. I just know the '77 and perhaps the '76 were different frames than the '72 to '75.

What I've quoted above is correct according to Bulgier's catalogs. They show the Le Champion and Team Champion as 531 "throughout" for all years and also for the Grand Record in '76 and '77 only. The GR main triangle and fork are 531 in previous years, except for '72, which is 531 only in the main triangle ... according to the catalogs.

I have a '75. Wish it were a '76 or '77, but it's my grocery getter, and I'm extremely happy with it. I'm a huge MotobÚcane fan. Maybe my favorite marque.

The catalog I have that I thought was a '75 is actually a '76 according to Bulgier, but my 3 GR bikes are '72, '74 and '75. I only believe this because of the date codes on the original Campy NR RDs.

I'm not convinced that Moto listed their tubing sets in their catalogs accurately during this time period. They didn't keep accurate production records, used parts that may have been carryovers from previous years, and frequently used parts that were whatever was laying around at the time. The French Reynolds 531 decals that are on my '74 and '75 seem to indicate that they were indeed double butted throughout. But who really knows. They're French.

I, like you, am a Motobecane freak. I think they were some of the best coming out of Europe at the time. Particularly their paint and general finish. In addition to the 3 mentioned I also have another '75 GR frame, a '72 Le Champion, a '75 Grand Jubile and a '75 Grand Jubile Mixte. I think I have a problem.

If the NR patent date is original, that's a good start ... especially with MotobÚcane, which are hard bikes to nail down for production year. I also look at hubs and their locknuts. But components could also be from the previous year.

The French Reynolds 531 decals that are on my '74 and '75 seem to indicate that they were indeed double butted throughout.
I'd like to see those (in the appropriate thread, of course).

Ben

I've used it and bought several bikes. It's awkward because they don't usually have viewing and with Covid I expect none at all.

You bid, no guarantees on quality or serviceability. Usually its cheap though.
Credit cards are used to pay, I haven't bid in awhile but relatively easy to play

Bought this one for I think $35.74?? Someone on here has it now
"1957" Raleigh Sports 3 speed

I also got an Eaton's Glider for $5 to see if I could build it up for $15.

The Craigslist ad for the Battaglin says nothing about the welded dropout. That one used to be owned by the RoS.
