So instead I had a USA Raleigh with Phil Wood hubs in my sights, until further inspection. The red and yellow had some rust formed at what may have been a crack at the seat tube cluster joint of the seat stay.
The blue one is a Nashbar triple triangle.

There is a TV show called "Stranger Things" and currently there is a Maxsold Auction on in LA selling bikes associated to that film and stage stuff and general photo shoot props. Auction ends Monday after 8pm.

There is a nice looking bike in the show which is currently at $36 (+ fees and taxes). Trek, maybe???
Just for fun - anybody recognize it?? I have done very well off these type of auctions but a) it don't fit and b) If I could get to LA I wouldn't be shoveling snow....

My 760's seat stay caps cracked. Trek was willing to provide a replacement (lifetime warranty and my lovely wife had the good sense to save the receipt), but at the time - 2008 or so - the 520 was the only steel frame they still made, and it wasn't like the classic lugged Treks of yore. ISTR it might not have even had a horizontal top tube. I'm too lazy (and haven't had enough coffee yet this morning) to search around for archival images of that bike. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong...
