RARE 1985 FAT CHANCE 19" frame, serial no. 85650, made in Somerville, MA. It has the unmistakable torpedo-type chain stays, cable routing above the bottom bracket, and the unique Fat rear cable stop on the seat stays. I believe it to be a Team Comp or Comp model due to the double water bottle mounts on the down tube. It has a Tange Prestige decal as well, and the 1985 catalog indicates it would be a very limited production Team Comp frame. That's the way I got it a few years ago. I did install reproduction FC decals on the head and down tubes, as it was naked when I got it. Unfortunately it does not have the coveted box fork. Comes with the pressed in bottom bracket with new collars, Delta Stronglight headset (needle pin bearings), and seatpost and collar. Please leave a name and number if interested, otherwise I will not respond. Priced for a quick sale.
RARE 1985 FAT CHANCE 19" frame - $340 (Acton)

From the looks of it, whoever built this knew what he was doing. He probably has his $600 asking price in it.

On a similar note, another nice Pug with a few modifications, mainly the rando bars (and some lovely color matching with the cable housing)

Never seen that jank of a crank on a PX10?
Steel plate chainrings with alloy arms, looks like what Ashtabula would do if they made a square taper.

Having spent way too much time on CL over the years, looking at bikes regionally, folks that "watch CL" for a specific bike to drop in price, generally, in the end, only get to watch it disappear. It's rare to pretty much unheard of (in my experience..I've monitored CL daily for various bike for years) that anyone drops an asking by $200 or more.
About all you can do is contact the guy and make a reasonable offer..one that is probably a bit uncomfortable for you($500?), but that's the premium you pay for a rare bike, in good shape, in your size, that's local. At that point, if the guy is going to drop the price at some point, he'll accept your offer before he relists it at the lower price on CL...and the ad will disappear, but disappear to you.
When you write a response and make an offer, make it a well written, polite note with contact info so he knows your real & serious. I've sold enough things on CL to realize 99% of the responses aren't worth reading...they get dismissed and deleted quickly. Even if I get a good offer on something, if the response is poorly written..delete..

The bike is in stunning condition. If it were my size I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it. Even with shipping it is a great deal IMO.

Yep..allows you to build some assurance that you're real, on time, and rational..or not..
There's always a chance he'll take it.
It goes without saying that enough research has been done that the target bike is a premium model with respect to tubing, components..etc and not a mid-lower price-point model made by a higher end mfg. (i.e some PDG Paramount mtn bikes are very average rides) If it is a premium model, then I ask myself, "..if I think it's worth $450, and the guy won't sell, is it worth $50, $100..etc..more to me(given the bike's fit, condition, rarity..) to not have to search for another 3, 6, 12 months for another bike? ". If the answer is yes, then I cough up the extra cash and get it done. If the bike is in average condition..then I let it go. Premium+ prices are only warranted by premium condition rides. It surprises me how many near-showroom condition old bikes are out there.
